I've been to the reef view hotel, it ia a bit high rise & hamilton is by far the most built up island (having said that, it's minimal compared to anything in europe). There were some lovely boutiques & restaurants. We stayed overnight then did a sailing trip around the islands.

It was paradise, the most beautiful place I have ever been - am so Envy, would LOVE to go back to the whitsundays. Have a fabulous time!

Yes, lots of peace & quiet - the Aussies were coplaining about it being built up yet compared to anywhere else it was really quiet - the reef view is the only proper high rise (or was - this was 1999) & we had amazing views from our window (cpmplete with cockatoos perching on the window ledge).

We didn't stay on Hayman - it's suppposed to be lovely & definitely posher! We went there on our boat trip for the snorkling, which was fab. Lovely beaches. It may be more family orientated than Brampton.

Lucky you, where else are you going? DH & I lived in Queensland for 2 years so had a ball over there Smile.

We stayed on Hayman for a week and had a GREAT time. Highly recommended. Hamilton is the island you fly into and is the more commercial, don't know about Brampton. Hayman send a huge private speedboat to come and pick you up. LOTS of honeymooners, so beware canoodling couples.

RTKangaMummy · 05/06/2006 20:02

Yes thought that, but DS would be completely FREE Smile

But Hayman does look soooooooooo deffo brill Smile

sigh of !

Looks a great itinery. Must go back sometime.

Hayman is deffo brill. We took a seaplane over the Reef,I really wanted to see Heart island, and the pilot circled twice and came down low just to keep me happy. Whitehaven beach is absolutely to die for, the seaplane lands on the sea, leaves you on the beach for 4 hours and then comes back. Nothing was too much trouble, good choice of restaurants - magnificent wet room/showers, huge beds. The only downside for me was the canoodling everywhere, and the staff looking at dh and I as if we were aliens because we weren't permanently snogging for the entire week.We avoided the "your own island for the night" experience, where you get dumped on an uninhabited island for a picnic/BBQ and they send a boat back for you at a preagreed time. V popular with the canoodlers.
We went when I was pg with the dt's and so can't comment on the kids facilities, sadly. Not planning on remortgaging in order to get the 4 of us back there.

ooooooooops meant DH and I went all over Aussie in 1994 and we want to take DS all over as well

but we didn't go to whitsundays and as it is my 40th this year want to treat myself

Smile

Hayman is deffo my 1st choice

but think Hamilton sounds brill too

Smile

DS won't be going to any kids clubs or anything so will really be happy swimming etc.

for example he was happy in Maldives for 10 days swimming and on beach so is easily pleased Smile

Hamilton was fabulous - we went for 3 days and stayed for 6! Hayman a bit beyond our budget but looks good. Maybe one for when there aren't children about.

eidsvold · 06/06/2006 06:31

Hayman - more couples - posher etc... Hamilton is more touristy but opening up to more families....

Brampton was all right.

Although your ds is 11 so he would be fine at Hayman.

Ohh and remember not Ayers Rock but Uluru....

jealous - you will love it.

WishICouldGiveUpWork · 06/06/2006 11:16

We were in HAyman for ten days a couple of Christmasses ago and it was great.Santa arrived on the beach by seaplane!
SO beautiful and I agree with Milge-you HAVE to do the seaplane over the reef.We actually landed on the reef and spent a couple of hours snorkelling-just lovely.

I didn't actually rate the food too highly and the main restaurant was very starchy and lacking in atmosphere-probably due to all the honeymooners Grin.
However,the Italian is great!

The rooms are just fabulous.

One of the pool areas has resident ducks (not in the water) so be prepared for shoes covered in duck poo.Didn't bother me-I thought they were great-they also used to come into the beach restaurant at lunchtime for a bread roll.

Lovely place-do it if you get the chance!

RTKangaMummy · 07/06/2006 22:53

ooooo thanks for all that info Smile
