Has anyone been on a ferry overnight with a toddler and a baby?

We've got an overnight crossing to France next month. Fortunately we've got a cabin, but is there anything I should be aware of? Is safety a problem? Should I be worried about sea sickness? Any tips from anybody who's done it would be great!

Thanks,
Jess

haven't done a night crossing but did a 5 hour day crossing a couple of years ago , two children then aged 1 yr and nearly 3yrs. We booked a cabin hardly used it but handy to dump some bags.

Safey was not a problem , nor was sea sickness , a calm crossing . In the cafe area was a small soft play area which kept the kids amused most of the journey. The rest of the time we wandered around the ship, always something to see on board.

Hope you have a good trip, ask your chemist about seasickness remdies for the children , I think I may have got some Joy Rides ( I think thats what they're called for the oldest.)

Have a good trip

we have done an overnighter to france before, altho many moons ago now as my eldest two were then 3 & 18mths and they are now 12 & 10!!

we had a cabin, and were quite frankly terrified about it all, but it couldn't have gone better. They enjoyed the adventure and there was lots to do for them, which I am sure still stands true now, if not being better....

as for travel sickness, we use a homeopathic remedy called 'nux vom', found on the counter in sainsburys and boots pharmacies. works wonderfully and all kiddies are ok with them. they are basically tiny little pillules that they think are like diddy sweets.

HTH, and have fun...:)

WSe're doing POsrtsmouth - ST Malo overnight as we do every year and it's fab!!! Kids arenow 3 and 4 and they love it!!! Have you sorted a bed/cot out for baby? I just slept beside dd in bottom bunk when she was a baby but a friend used her pram for her baby ds and all was fine. We tend to get to Portsmouth early pm to let them shriek at boats and go for a meal b4 going on ferry. Then it's finding the cabin (more shrieking!!), exploring hte ferry, rampoaging in gth play area and then off to the bar area cos there's a live band which they boogie on down to (toddler style) while mummy samples the French water of life! Then sheer exhaustion takes over and it's off to bed. Next morning it's an early start but we stop for croissants just outside St malo! Easy peasy and loads of fun!

The ferry is huge so never sufferedsea sickness - did the vomit comet day time to St Malo once and everyone on board (apart from me) was ill. Ferry is much better and a very relaxing start to your holiday.

Cabins seem to be quite well soundproofed as I have never heard much noise from other cabins which have always been full of families with young kids so don't worry about noise.

If you need bottles etc heating up, we used the ready made cartons fr hte journey and the cafe are ususally happy to heat htem for you or give you hot water to do it.

Apart from that, enjoy it! Hope you're going somewhere nice!
