Hello mums !

Dont know if my message is in the right place but maybe someone could help me ? Im about to give birth in the next couple of weeks. I'm french living in Scotland. We're going to France at the end of august and I'm now wondering how long it takes to get a passport for a newborn ? I cant get the french one quickly as I'm living on the isle of harris and cant go to glasgow just for that (you have to go 2 times to the consul, its jut impossible).
Could anyone tell me how it works ? do you get an identity card for a newborn too or do you have to get a proper passport ? and how long it takes ?
Many thanks in advance !

no such thing as identity cards in the UK. Your baby needs a proper passport.

this site tells you at least 3 weeks, possibly longer at the moment.

Baby will need proper passport, think it needs replacing after 5 years. I has DSs back within 2 weeks...use the PO checking service if available where you are Smile

Just checking OP, is your baby's dad British? As nationality is not automatic. Just in case you're both French, though how many French couples would end up living on the isle of Harris....if you put a note in with the application they may prioritise it. Good luck.
