They now charge you for ANY baggage in the hold, £5 per item, on top of the fare. Plus if you pay with a credit card they charge £10.40 Shock and they even charge £2.40 for paying with a debit card Shock Shock

Tossers

And we won't be here those dates either, we'll be back in the UK Sad

Yes Ryanair are a rip off and yes I do my absolute best to fly with another company but cheap Ryanair flights allowed me to bring my dd to Ireland 18 times in the first two years of her life. It was a lifeline for me as I missed my family really badly and my parents were desperate to see her too. So neccesary evil as far as I'm concerned.

SenoraPostrophe · 03/06/2006 16:34

it's worse than that cd, because they also won't let members of the same party share baggage. so either we lose ds and dd's baggage allowance or we buy them a separate case each and pay a fiver each for the privilege. when i get a min I want to write to trading standards about them as it discriminates against families.

oh yes, AND because everyone has to pay, it now takes an absolute age to check in and if you're last you'll have to run to the gate. also quite hard when 5 months up the duff with 2 kids. grrr indeed.

They don't scour the luggage to see who's got what in each bag, though. Last time we flew with Ryanair it was easy enough to decide that we would need 2 suitcases between us, and book and pay for them online before we went.

If you turn up to the airport in good time there is plenty of time to check in, and get to the gate, and Ryanair like all airlines board people travelling with children first.

The only gripe I have with that policy is the large group of neds (20+)who boarded the plane ahead of us us Stansted, one of their number must have claimed to be 12 or less (the cut-off age); most were effing and blinding loudly, many had stopped off at the duty free to by cigarettes and booze. Some were drinking it as they boarded. The staff did nothing about it!

SenoraPostrophe · 03/06/2006 18:28

no, but each bag must weigh only one person's baggage allowance (15kg) or they charge you excess. we usually take one suitcase between us all (weighting about 30kg) because it is much more convenient. i don't see why i have to take one big half empty suitcase and then go and buy another one because ryanair say so. excess baggae is something like 4 pounds a kilo so we're not talking palty sums.

and I usually turn up "in good time" - that is, an hour and a half before the flight. with all other airlines, this is plenty, but not ryanair.

SenoraPostrophe · 03/06/2006 18:30

...and they might board families first, but that's no good to you if you don't get to the gate in time because security takes so long. perhaps you flew from a small airport or at a non-peak time, but stansted in the afternoon is an absolute nightmare. the staff are rude too.

UglySister · 04/06/2006 12:53

Just FYI you can search for flights by price on most low price airlines on:

flightchecker.moneysavingexpert.com/index.php

I just fly with the absolute rock botton prices as the general package is so crap. The airline staff on Ryanair once left huge sacks of rubbish in front of the emergency exits for the entire flight. They also didn´t notice the very dodgy looking chap next to me was behaving very suspiciously and videoing the flight for 10 minutes. I lost confidence in them at this point.

Mars, have you looked at the link US gives- looks like you can get to Dinard for next to nothing!

MarsLady · 05/06/2006 10:36

Walk me through it Tissy.... link please!

MarsLady · 05/06/2006 10:49

It's okay. I can get closer to where I want to be for about £85. The moneysaving expert site alerted me to a couple of really cheap flights with Rynair. So, now to sort with my friend and the things at home then I can book.
