Why aren't there more 10 day holidays?

A week is too short, sometimes 2 weeks is a bit much for a short haul. I want 10 days but nearly impossible. Or is it just me?

Who are you booking with? Are you just looking at travel agents?

We went to Portugal for 5 days and have also booked a 11 day holiday through booking.com. (14 days are too long for us). Flights booked on Easyjet Smile

ps. we book all our hols through booking.com, so we have the choice of how many days we want to go. Oyr next one, we go on a monday, and come back the following week on the Friday, so we have a weekend at home either side Smile

Remember also that the number of days holiday is dependent to some extent on the flights available from the airports. So for Kefalonia for example with Thomson, there are flights from Gatwick, Luton, Stansted, Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle. Of these only Gatwick and Manchester offer 5,9,10,11 nights in addition to the usual 7/14 nights that the other airports have.

I think booking flights and accommodation separately might solve your problem unless you are prepared to travel to an airport that can offer the flights that you want in a package holiday.

I haven't booked a package holiday for..... Oh I don't know how long (except long haul)

In Europe we book our flights and accommodation separately. This year we are staying 17 days but have had anything from 3 nights to 25!

Because if all the big groups turn around on the same weekday (say Saturday) then they can fill the hotel perfectly. If you went Friday-Monday (10 days) then who would pay to fill in the Monday-Friday gap before the next lot of tourists arrive?

If you travel away from peak season and book independently you can avoid this of course, because the hotels already have gaps so will take any booking they can get, but they're not going to be keen to make a booking which will prevent another one being made.

There are! We go in 2 weeks on one through Thomson.

Mitchy1nge · 20/06/2013 09:25

can't you make your holiday as long or as short as you like? Confused

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 27/06/2013 11:22

If you boook flights and accomodation yourself you can go fo as many days as you want.

ShadeofViolet · 27/06/2013 12:46

We are going for 10 days next year with Thomson.

Myliferocks · 27/06/2013 12:49

We always book that the flights and hotel ourselves. That way we can go for as long as we want.

Now the DC are older so more flexible, I book via booking.com. I have often found that a hotel that offers only Sat-Sat through a tour operator is often available on other combinations of days, and we avoid Sat-Sat like the plague!

secretscwirrels · 29/06/2013 19:34

We are going for 11 nights with Thomas Cook. I found that you could only do 10/11 day holidays to the more popular destinations and from bigger UK airports.
