One day in Paris with 4 and 6yo - what are the must-sees?

We are camping near Paris in August and the campsite runs a coach service to Paris which we thought we might make use of for one day. DH and I have been to Paris loads between us, but not since having DC, and I've a feeling stumbling from one cafe-bar to another won't be on the agenda Grin

So what should we do, where should we go, and what's the best way to get around - Metro or a hop-on-and-off bus? DC are pretty good walkers but like having space to run around so parks/outdoor space would be good :)

We have 2 days. Our two dc want to see the Eiffel tower and we have prebooked going up but these slots seem pretty much full for August now. I wouldn't advise queuing as apparently this is normally a couple of hours and you only have one day. Perhaps go to the Champs-de- Mar Park and look at it from there if they are interested.

The Arc du Triomphe was the other requested monument to see from my dc. You can climb this also.

We thought to walk through the Tuileries garden ( may go to see the Monet waterlilies at the L'Orangerie) and view the Louvre pyramid from the outside. Perhaps visit the Jardin du Palais Royal and jump on the columns outside the Palais.

The park that comes most recommended is the Luxembourg with a payable (but good) children's playground and pony rides and wooden boat hire at the weekends. Could have a lunchtime picnic here.

We will visit Berhillion on the Ile St Louis for ice cream if time and/or Amorino and stop for drinks at a couple of cafes.

I've seen the Batobus hop on off boat on here but the bus is similar. For the short period we are there I don't fancy spending time underground on the metro if I can avoid it, would rather walk where possible.
