Christmas Abroad

Yes, I am seriously asking this in May because the constant rain is doing my head in!!!!!

We are considering going abroad in the Christmas school holidays and am wondering if the well travelled MNers have any suggestions?

We were thinking the Carribean or possibly India i.e. 10 hour flight?

Thoughts? Any hotel recommendations? Oh and have 2 kids, 5 and 2, but they are pretty good with the whole travelling thing.

TIA :)

Pre children we spent Christmas in Mexico city one year and although we we'dnever been bothered about Christmas before we were surprised to feel homesick and a bit lost on the 25th.

I read an article once about a family who'd gone away with good friends to the Caribbean. They had to have another Christmas when they came home as they were all sad to have missed it.

Not trying to put a dampner on your plans but just to point out that especially the 5 year old (and maybe the 2 year old) might miss out on the fun.

Sound like a stay-at-home stick-in-the-mud I know Wink

Oh no, I see what you are saying! We have to go on our main holiday in December as DH is self employed and taking the time off at Xmas has the least impact on his customers (good excuse to get away from the out laws as well)!

We spent Xmas in Dubai, absolutely fabulous! Weather nice, very relaxing and still very Christmasy. Very child friendly place. Lots to do. We stayed at the Jebel Ali Resort which is a huge hotel out on its own grounds, golf, lots of eating places, pools, horse riding, right on the beach. If you wanted you wouldn't have to leave the hotel. They had a carol service and Santa came to see all the children staying there on Xmas eve. Really nice.

I've spent Christmas in France (boring) Sri Lanka (liberating) and will be doing it in Martinique this year as my sister and her family are moving there.
I don't feel my children (23 mths and 5) have missed out on anything whatsoever!

WestCountryLass · 27/05/2006 22:31

That sounds great, especially as not such a long flight. Can I ask who you booked that through?

5 star hotel
Free food
Hot weather
Childens club (this means either am or pm in bed with DH - a rare occurance on a family holiday - when you all sleep in the same room)
Clear water - snorkelling etc

I went for sailing/windsurfing

Only down side was very little night life - but next time I am going to book closer to the resort

WestCountryLass · 27/05/2006 22:44

You're selling it to me!

I think India is off, i'm looking for all-in resorts and everything is B& B....

It's quite breezy (which means you don't get too hot)

and quite chilly in the evenings - but as long as you take the right clothes you're OK

I went Mark Warner - but I'm not sure who I'll go with this year
