Cheddar

We live in London but were thinking of making a trip to see the caves and museum etc. ideally we would do a day trip but there is the possibility of staying overnight.

My question really is, is it worth the money and time it will take? DC are 7, 5 and 2 but there is the possibility of DS3 staying with grandparents for the night as it looks like a lot of moving about, walking etc.

We are doing a summer prehistory project so this seems quite a nice excursion.

We stayed at wookey hole hotel last oct half term. Was fab!

The
Attraction is great for kids (mine 11,4 1) and we went to cheddar on the way home. Which was good, but less engaging for younger ones.

We always went to Cheddar as kids as grandparents lived nearby. From what I remember it was always a great day out, like being in another world with the gorge, the tea rooms and Wookey Hole was amazing - and a little scary!

Thanks. Just what I wanted to hear. If we drove up for the day do you think one day is enough?

One day is enough to do Cheddar Gorge (nicer than Wookey Hole IMO) but I think you'd be mad to do it as a day trip. I live just outside north London and it took me five hours to get down to that bit of Somerset last summer (horrendous traffic jams on M25 and by Stonehenge).

Yes, we are in north west London too. We could get the train but it doesn't seem very direct. We could get a combo ticket and do Longleat too.

We went at Easter, did the National Trust walk along the top of the gorge, you can pick up a leaflet from the NT shop in the village. Our DC's were not interested in the caves (but we live close to caves and they have done them to death).

Are you going to stop at Stonehenge on the way?

Glastonbury Tor is also very good.

Hadn't thought about Stonehenge but now you've mentioned it, maybe we could make a weekend of it.
