me, dh and ds are looking at a mw break there end of april, and looking at an exec villa. i will be 7 months pregnant by then so won't be up for mega strenuous cycling to get anywhere, and would love to be near lake (i've been enthused by everyone's descriptions of BBQs on terrace etc etc!)- does anyone have recommendations for specific locations? also - is it worth paying for exec? we don't go away much!! thanks all.

have been told by experienced CentreParc-er that Elvedon is the smallest, Sherwood Forest is looking a 'bit tired' and Oasis, in the Lake District, was the biggest and best.

I think the indoor swimming paradise whatsit called is tried at Sherwood!! Oasis defo has the best pool!!

Yes, both my dad and my friend both say that Elvedon is the smallest (which I prefer), Sherwood Forest needs refitting and Longleat is too hilly and spread out.

As Elvedon is nearest for me (50 mins) obviously my personal favourite.

Being in Essex, Oasis is too far away for a weekend trip

Oh the exec accomodation was brand new at Sherwood though, the best I had stayed in at a C/P. They are now new wood lodges and are beautifully furnished!

Have never been to Centre Parcs and fancy going for a weekend with 2 kids. How far in advance do you have to book and approx how much does it cost? I know you have to pay extra for some of the activities but swimming etc is free. Everyone I speak to really enjoys it and I'd like to give it a go myself especially with the children.

Hi, you can book last minute but your choice of villa would be limited. If you go to www.centerparcs.com, the main website you can check online availability and prices. The cost varies loads when you go and the type of accomodation. I can recommend exec accomodation and it's not too much to pay. We're going to Oasis Whinfell end of April for midweek break in a 2 bed exec villa for £470 for all of us!! School hols are more expensive obviously. The onsite supermarket is reasonable and the restaurants are of a high standard with lots for the kiddies and loads of ourdoor/indoor playareas for free too. The kiddies clubs are good for a treat to have a break and babysitters are very trustworthy. Hope you find your holiday!

Well I'm back now It was great. The Spa area was fantastic well worth it, even thought here were a couple of things out of order (I complained and got 50% refund on the spot ) The spa would be great for longer than the 3 hr session they suggest, I would spend 4 - 5 hrs if I could. I am planning a day trip there

We didn't prebook accommadation close to the centre and we were about 1 - 2 mins cycle The 700's villas are very close and there is a mix of comfort and executive. I personnally wouldn't pay to be nearer, I would ask very nicely and explain why, but since you aren't bothered about a specific number villa, any would be fine.

I'll post more later someone at teh door

I hope Oasis is not too far for a weekend trip (from SE London) - We're going there this weekend! Looking forward to it having the best pool. We've tried all the others now and like them all but think oasis might have the edge with its log cabins.

Ok Elevden, i went once before, before it burnt down and since then all the changes they have made have been great.

Pool area
Changing rooms were nice new and clean with plenty of 'family' changing rooms. Lockers are rather small and need a £1 (returnable), we used 2 lockers for the 4 of us, and kept the £2 in the pocket of the rucksack - so we didn't spend it!
The pool itself has a new toddler area which was nice. 2 little pools - about 12" deep - with 2 small slides/flumes, a sandpit, loads of chairs, kids plastic picnic tables, giant connect 4, loads of playpens/travel cots, spearate loos with changing table/toddler loo seats etc.
Main pool area is fun with 2 big flumes, rapids, salt water outdoor pool, waves etc. My only word of warning is the waves are very powerful, even at the edge. The shallow area is roped off too.
Lagoon bar at the pool is the best value place to eat in the whole place! £4 for a grown up hot dog, chips and drink (DH loved these) £2.50 for a kids version. But we used 1 meal between 2 (aged 5 and 3) as they don't have huge appitites. Ice-cream sundaes fab £2.50 for a grown up one which my kids shared, ask for loads of sweets and 2 flakes!!
You can take picnics in with you, but we were lazy

Restaurants and Bars
These are overpriced (IMHO) but do have good facilities. We used Hucks which has a 3 storey play area in the middle. Kids have a buffet (£3.95) which mine shared a plate between them. This wirked well as they didn't have to wait for ages for food and chose hot dogs and chicken nuggets on the same plate! Food is OK, we only tried the family nachos (they were great). One tip on the arrival day, go to the restaurant around 12 and book, they will give you a buzzer which took about 1/2 hr for us. By 12.30 the wait was 1 hr!
We didn't try the other resturants, Sapinaire was fab 2 yrs ago (£28 a head) a real treat. If you eat early between 4 and 6.30 you can get kids eating for £1.
We didn't go into the bars to drink, but the Sports bar looked nice (Ball pool/slides - unsupervised) but pricey. Bowling looked fun, a bit smokey for me, but probably the most action (!) Country club also has play area, but looked a bit dull!

Other facilities,
The shoop is great, a little more expensive than a local supermarket, but loads of choice and so we ate in all the time. Other shops include swimsuit shop - nice, sweet shop - avoided, toy shop - fun and a couple of others that we didn't check out.
Cinema, really fun - we saw finding nemo. Costs £4.50 adult and £3 kid, but you get a free big bag of Haribo sweets too
Kids Clubs are lovely, but do pre-book. We didn't used them as they are pricey for 2 kids £15 per child a session, and you can get daytime babysitters.
Babysitters are great, we had Dodo who is a cancer nurse too. In fact she was brilliant DD2 was knackered and so was able to sleep for a bit when she arrived, and DD1 was sick! Seriously, she had a bit of a tummy bug and we came back to vomit all over the floor and housekeeping on it's way She was so fantastic and helpful and kind. If DD1 had been sick if I was there I would have scrubbed at the floors etc, instead she got housekeeping to come and do it

Playgrounds
There is a fab huge playground near the centre with areas for under 3's and over 3's. It is great with lots of stuff - never enough swings!! Also for older kids there is an area but we didn't use it, I have been told it is great though.

Spa
This is a must if you can, you do need more than 3 hrs and they don't throw you out. It is pricey £25 for a 3 hr session (but just stay in) but so lovely I thought it worth it. Again pre-book if you want to et Spa and childcare at teh same time.

Is that enough!!!!!

I booked yesterday fo me and my sister and our four children to go to Oasis on the 30th July - seriously can't wait now and am very tempted to book a Christmas break. I went as a child to Sherwood and Elvedon and loved it but have not been since. Wow - am really excited now and must get on with the diet in time for all that swimwear! Have a fab time everyone!

Galaxy, I've been in exec villas in both Sherwood and Oasis. Sherwood by far has the nicest exec ones!!! They are very very new and in new style log cabin type buildings. However beware, as there are still some older exec villas around with the same spec but not quite as nice. The new 2 bed ones are in 'purple'on the map, if you ring and ask they will send one to you. I'm sure you can tell the old from the new though from the brochure/website as the older ones are cheaper.
HTH!!!
