Phoenergan Alternatives?

Hi ,
I have tried Phoenergan on my 2 and a half year old daughter to test it out for a trip to Australia at the end of May. My husband has to stay behind and sell our house so I have to make this 24 hour flight on my own with my typical tantrumming two year old. I am really dreading it. It was bad enough when she was one but then there were two of us and she didn't throw tantrums!

Anyway the Phoenergen seems to make her sleep but only after about an hour of what I would more hyper behaviour than usual.

I have read that it does make some children hyper. Has anyone had this experience and found an alternative? I will be visiting my Gp but just wondering if anyone had any advice?

Thanks very much
Rose

Piriton syrup or Medised.

Again, test them out. They're generally best given near a usual nap time I think.

Or, my parents once got chatting to the father of a young child who was completely zonked out on a long haul flight. Turns out the father was an anaethetist and had give the child a pre-med!

soup dragon, that's so funny! we all need anethestists in the family!

On a night flight back from the state i gave ds 10mls medisead, and he was out of it.

TBH, i wouldn't drug if it was a day flight, just give calpol to calm and medisead at night. Good luck,

My dentist recommended using travel sickness remedies on my two and they did seem to work quite well with no hyper reactions although it wasnt instant and they werent comatose or anything. Not sure what age you can use them from tho. We used joyrides - little chewy tablets.

dd2 has travel sickness tabs (for travel sickness!!!) and they always zonk her out. We use Joyriders too.

I posted on the health thread, with a similar question!
My DS2 is a bad traveller, and we have tried every availiable over the counter treatment, but he woulld gag and make himself sick just taking them, and then of course was sick on the journey. I was prescribed phenergan and used it twice for trips in the past week. He was more hyper thanusual on the trip down, cvhatted non stop for the whole four hours!.
My older DS uses something called Traveleeze, whixh are soft and chewy, and he has never once been sick ( he used to cry with the thought that he might be) and although they don't knock him out and make him sleep, i find they are very effective with him

we use piriton syrup - I recently read 3 spoonfulls was the recommended dose for a long flight but I'd check with your gp, we only use 1 teaspoon as ds is 6!
