Siem Reap (Cambodia) holiday with a toddler

Hi

I was wondering if anyone has visited Siem Reap with a toddler? Was hoping to go for a week with our 20month old to visit some temples, see some wildlife etc and wondered if anyone had advice? On everything really, if temples are accessible with a toddler in a backpack carrier, safety, activities, hotel recommendations, etc. (We're hoping to combine this with a trip to KK, borneo as well).

Thanks in advance,
Maggie

I've been although not with a toddler. Siem Reap itself has lots of hotels (we stayed at the Bopha Angkor which was lovely and a bit more traditional than some of the chain hotels but they might have better facilities for kids). The temples are easy to get to and you can walk around them but they are very uneven - steep steps, tumbling down walls, rocks etc. you could do it with a carrier but you'd have to be very careful of your footing. And they are BIG - lots and lots of walking.

I don't know how good the roads are really so in terms of car safety, I don't think it's great but probably not the worst out there. I also got food poisoning in Siem Reap but it could have happened anywhere I guess!

Personally I wouldn't. I've been to Siem Reap and it's hot. DH, me and our DD went while we were living in Bangkok. Despite being 'used' to the heat and humidity, it seemed magnified by 10 there.

Took DS when he was about 30 months. That was about 6 years ago.
Its great if you know to work your way around the hottest hours of the day.

Temple visits were first thing in the morning 7:30 to 11am. Works well with the jetlag. This is when you get a guide and soak it all up.

Poolside and nap 11:30 to 3:30, the heat is not that oppressive but the glare of the sun is just too much at that time of the day.

sunset visits 5-7pm just being driven around the sites by tuk-tuk. Then you just drive around in a daze to quietest areas and soak up the atmosphere and realise depth and breath of the site.

Siem Reap is as busy as the trendiest parts of Bali. Very user friendly. Would have to say we did worry about food safety (cockroaches in one of the fanciest restaurants) but were OK as we ate at the hotel most of the time.

Friends recently went with 5YO, 13mths, 8mths and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Brilliant guys, thanks very much. laptopwieldingharpy mind me asking which hotel you stayed in? and how long you stayed? we were thinking a week but that might be too long. (Might stay longer in KK)

Thanks all!

Contact these people link- one of the partners is an Irish lady with a toddler of her own, I'm certain she won't mind giving you some practical advice, she was very kind and helpful even though we didn't use their company.

I think 4 full days enough btw!
