I'll be traveling down to the south of france and stopping two nights/one day in Paris. I have three DCs they will be 7, 6 and just turning 5, the only thing on our list is visiting the Effel Tower.

Think cheap!

Thanks

Also if anyone can recommend a cheap Travel Lodge type place with parking in/very near Paris.

Certainly not. I am too skint to have anything remotely resembling a holiday and my teenage son has never been abroad. Have you heard of 'google'?

Ah. Always wanted to post a message like that!

Hope you have a nice time [grudging emoticon]

Cheap stuff and hotels in Paris?! Hmm

Will have to sleep on this one.

My aim is to keep the cost minimal and maximise sight seeing.
Cost: a daypass that allows you to hop on / hop off any regular bus and metro lines.
Its called a "mobilis" card which is between 6-15 euros/person (half price for kids)

So take metro the tour Eiffel,
When you finish viewing, take bus 82 towards "Luxemburg".
Cheap way to see the posh part of the left bank. I would certainly stop at "Invalides" (military museum where Napoleon lays to rest).
Hop on the 82 again and go to the terminus "Luxemburg": One of the prettiest gardens of Paris. It is the seat of the house of Senate and rose gardens + has some old fashioned children's playgrounds with wooden horses and the sweet smell of sugar from candied apples.

If you still have some time ahead, take bus 85 from the Luxemburg and head down boulevard St Michel and back to the righ bank until Louvre Rivoli and just walk through the arches of the Louvre to see the Pyramid from the outside. Then wal along Rue du Lovre and through the orangerie Gardens towards place de la concorde, the Grand Palais and Alexander bridge.
Magic seen at sunset or just as the evening light are switched on and All safe areas to walk around without too much traffic.

HTH!

Thanks Laptop, We did think about Luxemburg Gardens I think we will weave it into our day. I will have a look at Invalides as well. We planned to stop somewhere for lunch and then eat crepes or some street food for dinner. I think you may have planned our perfect day, thank you so much, as we really didn't have a clue what best to do.

Choco Have you tried house swapping? That's what we're doing and hoping to couchsurf in Paris (if we are brave enough!) we sometime host but have never surfed before. Google couchsurfing and have a look.

Most welcome. Let me think about lunch and crepes along the way and get back to you!

Kendodd · 12/03/2013 10:38

I've checked out Invalides, looks good, and the children go free.

Oh - I feel doubly awful about my flippant post now Blush .

You know how ocassionally people post something along the lines of, "This thread is boring"? Which really irritates me - it's not witty, funny, interesting or helpful. If the thread is boring leave it, surely. Yet, my bad mood still got the better off me. Sort your holiday yourself suddenly manifested in a post! (It was quite satisfying at the time).

I was scrolling through the Unanswered Questions site, by the way: I don't normally read the travel posts - for the above reasons, ie, skintness, ignorance and bitter jealousy.

Hope you have a lovely time.

It's ok Choco Smile

Do check out my suggestions though.
