Hi in June we are going to new york for 10 days with our twins , and a week later flying to san francisco for 6 weeks !! We are booked with BA and have booked one child seat as well. i'm just not sure whether i should book the bulkhead position ( more leg room etc ) but have been told that the arm rests are fixed so that may be an issue if the twins want to sleep ( i hope !), anyone had any experience of this ..thanks

Ummmmm... the best of luck to you madame. IME and that's just with non twins, long haul flying is just a trial and if you get away with no major dramas then it's a bonus. Sorry to be blunt.

Definitely book the bulkhead, if nothing else you will have more leg room for all your crap.

Very Envy at going to NY

Agree with Suzywong... bulkhead is also fantastic because you won't have a passenger in front of you complaining about his/her seat been kicked by the child.

Don't worry about the twins not being able to sleep because of the arm rests, they won't sleep anyway. It doesn't matter how long is the flight DS falls asleep as soon as the plane touches land. It never fails!

Make sure you book assistance at both ends. At the UK end it's pretty much useless as they'll only carry your documents ie they're not allowed/won't touch buggies, bags, children anything else. However, in other countries they'll take your carry on luggage, will push the buggy etc and guide you through the fastest immigration/customs queue etc.

Also speak to BA, many airlines won't give bulkhead to toddlers as infants needing cots have priority. However, a friend flew recently with them and they had a new style of onboard car seat which for her 2yo was brilliant. Worth checking out. Not sure if on all routes yet.

If you can't have bulkhead, ask for last row in the cabin at the back of the plane. You'll get fed first, have your trays taken first so you can get to the loos, which of course are close by. Have a great trip!
