Where to stay overnight between Calais & Brittany with 3 kids???

This will be our first holiday abroad with the children (4, 2 and 8 months when we travel) and we're going to Brittany in June. We'll need to break the journey somewhere along the route from Calais, ideally before Caen.

But where?

I can't find any hotels offering rooms large enough - since the littlest will only be 8 months old we don't need a separate bed for her, just a travel cot. Most hotels seem to want us to book 2 rooms. I've seen inter-linking rooms in Campanile hotels recommended on other threads but the booking website says nothing about inter-linking rooms.

It's driving me mad trying to find something suitable. Please help me good people of MN!!

There is a Campinile just off the motorway at Honfleur but to my knowledge it didn't have interconnecting rooms. We have three kids and for one night we split up and did one adult per room. There was space for the kids to play outside in the morning and Honfleur was very lovely to wander round at night with great food and lots of kids restaurants.

We've travelled through France with three children, and for overnight stops, have two rooms - using a triple and a double (my children are a bit older now, too big for a travel cot). Dh stays in one room, and me in the other.

If you are staying in Britanny, I would recommend getting a boat Portsmouth to St Malo. Although it depends on where you are in the UK>

they have some family friendly places I think - they are more b and bs in old chateaus and might be more accommodating! They have lovely selection of places on northern France! And not as expensive as a hotel!

We've stayed in Etap, Formule Un, Ibis hotels. Literally just for overnight, I don't like these types of hotels very much. They feel more like motels then hotels.

Is it just a stopover you want or a bit of a tour/sightseeing?

If your looking at Honfleur La Coeur de St Katherine B and B in Honfleur had lovely family rooms does the most delicious breakfast with freshly made pancakes and homemade jam. It was a nunnery so is very, very quirky, but the owners are lovely.

We costed the Portsmouth/St Malo ferry and to rent a cabin plus crossing it's a couple of hundred more than if we drive across from Calais, hence the need for overnight accomm. which would just be overnight, no sightseeing and eating in or v near hotel.

Also does anyone know what the attitude to bf in public is in France ?

I've bf both my dds in france and never noticed anyone having a problem. This would have been in brittany, paris and on the train in between. And dd1 was only 8 weeks the first time, so i doubt i'd learnt the art of subtlety by then!
