Hi,
We are going to France to stay with friends in the next school holidays and need an overnight stop between Calais and Toulouse. Can anyone recommend a good value stop not far from the autoroute around Orleans or a little furhter south? Nr a supermarket would be great, needs to sleep 5, thanks.

Triplets - they were VERY accommodating. They would probably fit another bed in for you.

Supplyteacher, that's EXACTLY what i wanted to know. Thanks. And I'll also look at the website you recommended, lapsedrunner. Getting excited about going now!

Where is your ultimate destination, MrsMuddle?

MrsMuddle · 01/05/2006 21:46

Getting ferry from Edinburgh to Zeebrugge, then driving to the Vendee at a leisurely pace, spending a night en route there and again on the way back. I know via St Malo is probably not the most direct route, but when I was in p7, there was a school trip there and I wasn't allowed to go. As a result, I've wanted to go ever since. I have 2 independent boys, 11 & 9, and they would be in seventh heaven to wander round a small French town on their own for a short while and practise the little French that they know (All they'll be able to do is buy bread!)and St Malo looks like it could fit the bill. Swithering between that and staying at a working farm somewhere. Might do one on the way, and one on the way back.

There's a ferry from Edinburgh to Zeebrugge??? I grew up in Edinburgh and we had to drive to Hull to get to the continent quickly....

MrsMuddle · 01/05/2006 22:03

Yeah, Rosyth to Zeebrugge. It's been going a couple of years now. The kids went to Bruges on it at Easter with my parents. It seems to be really popular. We booked the summer in January and a lot of dates were already full. It beats that hideous drive from Dover to Glasgow at the end of a holiday, that's for sure!

www.stopoverconnections.com Brilliant b and b near Blois, lovely house, great breakfast and garden with swing which pleased kids after long car journey. We had two adjoining rooms at top of house. Easy to get to Blois which is lovely.

Hi,
Made a provsional booking at a Mister Bed nr Tours, Chambray. Only 62 eouros for 2 rooms + 25 for b/fast. But have just looked at Tweeds site suggestion, and sent off a request at a hotel in Mer, looks very nice and under a £100! Have looked at the Sawdays site on the web but couldn`t find anything affordable or with enough room in that area.

We have stayed at Chambray-Les-Tours (in an Accor Hotel). It is a nice area. We had a good meal in small bistro and a nice walk round. Too cold for the outdoor pool for us though!

Bit late, sorry, but its worth looking on the internet at the Ibis/Logis de France chain, they have a UK line you can book on so no language difficulties, and hotels all over france, some v nice, but lots of others which specialise in overnight stops, large family rooms, early breakfasts etc etc. we normally stay at the Ibis on the ring road at Chatres. I'm useless at links but anyone interested should be able to find them on the Web.
