Bottle Warming on Planes - Beware!

We recently flew transatlantic with our 4 month-old son on a Virgin Atlantic flight.

The flight attendant kindly offered to warm our son's feeding bottle. She took the full bottle away and 15 minutes later, I went to find it because I was worried that it would be too hot. When I reached the galley, she handed the bottle back to me and I thanked her but said I'd been a bit worried because it had taken so long and I thought the bottle would have overheated. She replied that it had overheated but that she'd cooled it down. I asked how she'd cooled it and she said she'd added some cold milk - ordinary cow's milk. She didn't realise that baby's bottles do not contain plain cow's milk.

I explained what a bad idea that was and she was very apologetic. But please be careful if you have your kid's bottle warmed on a plane!

Shocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shock. It's nice to be made aware. Thanks.

Write to Richard Branson and you will get a free flight or holiday - they are so good with complaints!!

Thank you! I wont let it out of my sight. I wonder if they will object to my own flask warmer?

The problem as well is that many of these cabin crew do not have a clue re heating up bottles as many of them do not have children of their own. After one overheated bottle (which was popped into the microwave) I used to follow them down to the galley and watched them.

So Virgin are good with complaints are they- that made me laugh out loudGrin!!!.

i just got my dd used to room temp milk anbd that way I could just use bottled water and formula and make it as I went. I also used the tetra packs of ready made formula - again at room temp and dd1 was fine with that.

peaches27, take your own flask..as long as you warmed it while waiting for everyone to board and it's away for takeoff you will be fine. I would next time. TBH, dd wasn't keen on having milk during take off and landing, we found a dummy worked even better.

I think she will take it at room temp as she has done when we have been out. I might have a go with water and mixing when ready as I bought some of those little containers for milk powder yesterday, the ones that fit in your bottle (tommee tippee).
