Ideas for half term trip toFrance please

Decided to leave the tent behind and want to go to France next half term. We are travelling from South London so figure we need Dover or Portsmouth for the ferry but dont want to drive too far the other side as we will be going with two toddlers.

I would like somewhere with things to do nearby but not commercialised please. Never been to France before so finding it a bit overwhelming. There will be 3 adults, one ten year old and two toddlers.

Anyone got any ideas? Ideally a cottage/gite type for staying in.

What about one of the french campsites in a mobile? there are some fantastic sites not far from St malo (direct from portsmouth) - you could ring round the tour operators and see what deals they have. You can get 6 and 8 berth mobiles and they are fantatic. teh campsites cater for all ages so that should cover all the children.
Enjoy!

How about this place

Caravaning L`Orée du Bois
Chemin Blanc Rang-du-Fliers

Tel 03 21 84 28 51 Fax 03 21 84 28 56

This fairly peaceful but extensive campsite is in a natural woodland setting, and only 3 km. from a large sandy beach. From reception you pass through a corner of the mobile home (privately owned) section, then through an area of natural, preserved woodland which separates the touring area. This has 80 individual, touring pitches, all with shade and electric hook-ups. On sandy grass which can be slightly undulating, most are separated by hedges and bushes, but the emphasis is on ’nature’. Also on the touring site are 67 wooden camping lodges. A separate clearing in the woodland is reserved for tents, and useful for cyclists or backpackers is ’Camp Sherpa’ comprising eight 2-berth wooden tents. A modern sanitary unit is central in the touring area, with a second smaller unit in the mobile homes area, useful when walking between your pitch and the bar/brasserie with takeaway, tennis courts, pétanque etc. Berck Plage is only 3 km. and has a magnificent sandy beach and promenade, with extensive free parking areas

I found it on the Alan Rogers website, they do accomodation too, might be worth checkng out the site and doing some ringing round, I'd get in early though, half term will be busy!
