Can any one recommend some where for passport pictures for kids. Those booth ones are too much of a gamble as ds just will not perform.

Lots of chemists will do them for you. They keep taking photos until they get one you can use. It's the sort of thing you don't see them doing until you need it!

Donbean · 24/04/2006 10:39

Thanks beany, do Boots do them then?

or try a local camera shop, eg Jessops

ButtonMoon · 24/04/2006 10:51

We had ours done at jessops...they use a digital camera. A nd if the photos get sent back from p port folks then they re do them for free!

WigWamBam · 24/04/2006 11:18

Jessops did ours too - they will keep taking them until they get a good shot, and will also cut them to the right size for you. Under the age of 6 they are a bit more relaxed about how the picture looks - the child doesn't have to be looking directly at the camera, and they can smile as well.

LilacBump · 24/04/2006 11:20

i went to a photographer. cost 50p more than a booth and he took several trial ones until he got the proportions and colours right.

jenkel · 24/04/2006 11:28

If you have a digital camera you can do them yourselves, there is a form in with the passport form that tell you what format/size etc they need to be. We have always done ours.

SoupDragon · 24/04/2006 11:34

Definitely do them yourself. I did DDs when she was 4 weeks and it was far easier than tarting about with a booth or photo shop.

WigWamBam · 24/04/2006 11:39

Bear in mind though that there's a note on the new instructions for passport photographs that says it's unlikely that photographs you've done yourself will be of a good enough resolution for the passport office to reproduce them digitally on the passport - I didn't think it was worth risking having them rejected.

prettybird · 24/04/2006 11:42

If you have a decent quality printer, then you shouldn't have a problem. We did this a couple of months ago for ds and didn't have any issues.

Have to admit though that we did print it iff at my dad's, who does have a good quality printer and not at home, where are printer, which used to be good, seems to be giving up the ghost.

jenkel · 24/04/2006 12:56

We have done 4 lots of photos with our own digital camera and printer and have never had the post office reject them.

soyabean · 24/04/2006 12:59

You can get your digital pics printed out at www.paspic.co.uk (I think)You can choose passport style and they send you 6 for 75p plu s £1.20 pand pp. Havent done it myself yet but seems a good compromise.

SoupDragon · 24/04/2006 13:00

You just have to make sure you print them at the highest resolution - the passport instructions tell you the dpi they need.

SoupDragon · 24/04/2006 13:01

\link{http://www.paspic.co.uk/\Passpic} Looks good, Soyabean! I'll give it a go for DS2s passport in the next week or so.

EvesMama · 24/04/2006 13:03

places like bus stations actuallt 'take' the photo and are normally perfect for passport cos theyre used for bus passes.
post office do check and send service£7 per passport) and they make sure photos and all paperwork are perfect before sending off so you could check the piccy first..also we found out too late, that if you are still very much recognisable from your old passport, you may not need to have the new one authenticated and countersigned!

soyabean · 24/04/2006 19:10

Thanks Donbean (are we related?) for starting this thread as it reminded me to order ours from passpic! Will let you know when they arrive what they are like.

soyabean · 29/04/2006 16:32

Just reporting back as promised. Our pics arrived, v good quality, well same as from Chemist. 6 photos each for 5 of us inc p and p was only £4.95 which is good I think.

SoupDragon · 29/04/2006 16:35

Presumably they're better than the chemist because the original photo was better though :)

I can't get DS2's photo done as he cut his head open on Thursday! He has a huuuuge plaster on it at the moment - I hope it heals quickly.

teabags · 29/04/2006 21:36

SNAPPYSNAPS were fab. they use a digital camera and did as many takes as it took to get a good shot. I think it cost about £4 for 4 passport shots
