We've just got back from a two-week trip to a Pierre et Vacances resort in the South of France. Mostly, I think we liked it, although there were some slightly odd bits.
We've never been to Centreparcs or anything else equivalent, so I guess I'm just wondering how this compared.
Some of the stranger details:
Mostly, the equipment was very sparse. No more than one of anything. But they included a clothes-drying rack, a dishwasher, and a salad spinner (!!). No kettle or teapot, but it was France ...
The childcare was only for 3.5 hours at a time, generally. (9am to 12:30, 3pm to 6:30) Which was fine for us, but I thought these places mostly did full days?
Restaurants generally closed sometime in the afternoon and didn't open again until 7pm. Is this just a French thing? Very annoying.
The site wasn't really geared up to help you get off the site, iyswim. They sorta ran a bus to town, only it didn't seem to run much while we were there, and it was only meant to run at 9am, 10am, 11am. Of course, town was only 15 or so minutes' walk away ...
Are these things typical of self-catering resorts?
