Anyone know the Hereford/Leominster/Llandrindod Wells area?

We have booked a last minute weekend away (friday to monday, next weekend) at a cottage near Kington/Lyonshall which is roughly in the middle of the triangle created by Hereford, Leominster and Llandrindod Wells. If anyone is familiar with the area I'd be grateful for recommendations of places to visit with two ds aged 11 and 8. DH and I would be interested to know of anywhere in the region that is particularly scenic and of any nice child-friendly pubs!
Thanks. Smile

Wow! Quick replies everyone Smile. Small world Cod - amazing that your mil lives in Kington!
I've printed off all the suggestions - Eastnor Castle looks grand and worth a visit, Quackers would be appreciated by ds2 and ds1 might risk his street cred there too on the assurance that he wouldn't be rumbled by someone he knows. Bowling is always a winner in the rain (not to be pessimistic at all Grin). The pubs both look wonderful too. Thanks. Keep the suggestions coming - especially scenic/pretty routes/villages/walks.

We really liked Eastnor, the Judge's Lodgings and Newbridge Farm Park near Much Marcle.
Hampton Court Gardens also lovely, and the Weston's Cider tours were more child-friendly than we expected.
Good food shopping in Leominster - really nice deli place specialising in local produce/goodies. Um, can't remember name Blush but v. central.
Fodder in Hereford also nice for pressies to take home.
So beautiful round there, enjoy!

cod · 23/04/2006 10:22

zippitippitoes · 23/04/2006 10:38

I don't think there is anything interesting about hereford..I always avoid it and drive through stretton sugwas

also think it seems to rain a lot

Marina · 23/04/2006 19:33

I expect I'd hate it too if the monster in law lived there...We sort of ended up there under duress the summer we went and had both nice weather and found lots more than we expected to do.
And it was so blissfully quiet after the infernal roads of North Devon and the purgatory of Crealy Grin that we had the previous week, although not having Hoxty to have coffee with was a drawback.

cod · 23/04/2006 19:35

oh yes
it is tha land that time forgot though
i still ecxpect to see "fine Fare " shops and religh choppers nad scampi in a basket

actually forget that i have seen scmapi in a basket

Marina · 23/04/2006 19:38

Grapefruit segments in a little metal dish for starters? Brown Windsor soup? You need the Isle of Wight cod Wink
Know what you mean though. Have arch-codger friend whose spiritual home is Kington Grin

Norah · 23/04/2006 19:39
