hi
im thinking of attending an event at nec birmingham in march. i live in yorkshire so dont know birmingham at all. im looking for somewhere cheap to stay within walking distance if possible of the nec as im not a confident driver but will i think drive down to birmingham, but the parking at the nec is £10 a day and im going for two days so would prefer to leave the car at the hotel and walk if its safe that is.

There is a train station at the NEC, if you want somewhere cheap I would sugest catching the train into New Street, staying in Brum and then catching the train to the NEC, it's 10 mins.

If it is crufts I don't think there ill be any chance of accommodation at the NEC. As the above poster said the train to new street is just a few minutes.

no its not crufts its a sewing and craft exhibition in march. was thinking of staying at a travelodge 12 miles from the nec and driving in and just paying the £10 a day as the hotel at the moment is only £19 which is a real bargain.

Its really easy to drive to the NEC, so I'd stay at the cheap Travelodge tbh

If you arrive after 10 the station car park is £5 a day (£8 before 10). Then it is just a walk to the nec.

I would use the train tbh. Really frequent service to Birmingham or Coventry then you have somewhere to wander in the evening and find interesting places to eat.

Don't drive to the NEC, it's a pain in the arse and the parking is MILES from the exhibition halls. Stay at one of the central Birmingham Travelodges - you can get a room for £21- £23 at the time of the show you want to see - and take the train - Birmingham International station is right by the NEC exhibition halls, you don't even have to go outside! Then you can get a proper dinner in Birmingham rather than eating a Ginsters pasty in your room 12 miles from the NEC.

You could stay in Solihull. If you drive to Hampton in Arden , there's a railway station there that's free. It's one stop down the line from the nec.
I used to live in Hampton it's lovely. I'm not sure if there are any band b's there though. Prob a travelodge or premier inn in Solihull though.

I'd rather go and stay in Solihull rather than Birmingham though. Solihull is very posh and has a nice shopping centre too.
