Holidays
inexpensive holiday for June/July...UK, Europe...anywhere!

We arrived from Australia in Dec last year and are in need of some cheap sun! We have an almost 2 year old and a 1 month old and are after somewhere basic but nice to just relax. We're not after spas or anything posh and we don't nessesarily have to swim although its a plus.
We are looking for somewhere with nice scenery, possibly some nice short walks, self catering is fine.
Needs to be somewhere that will be relaxing even with two kids, and therefore not a long drive from Derby or a long flight from East Midlands airport!
Please help me!? I have NO idea!
Thankyou!

The Peak District (which of course is on your doorstep) is very lovely. Failing that the Lake District is a couple of hours max drive from you. The East Coast can also be very relaxing but can be a bit nippy

Have a look at www.gwynfrynfarm.co.uk. I went there with ds when he was 2.5. Indoor pool, playground, mini tractors to ride, small indoor soft play room, good beaches, calfs & lambs to feed etc.

Thanks folks...any more ideas? Specific cottages you have stayed in?

If you want some warmer weather have a look at www.skyscanner.net
I see that in June you can fly cheaply to Nimes or Carcassone in France from East Midlands. Then look at www.gites-de-france.fr (in English)for good accommodation nearby (I have booked online several times). I always book 3 "ears of corn" standard and have never been disappointed, prices much cheaper than if booking through a UK agent.

Should have said Gites de France also have some gites that are clasified as "baby friendly".

We used to go away with Brittany ferries, where the gites and ferry crossing were all in. We had some great holidays with them and you can specify child friendly, they often have pools, paddling pols, bikes, games etc Obviously a bit old for your two but you see what I mean.

Eurocamp is great! Look at www.eurocamp.co.uk. They are in some great locations across Europe and you can get really nice self-catering accommodation.

I would recommend Croatia - inexpensive, 2 hr flight to many seaside airports, guaranteed sun between May and end of September - and very very peaceful in June. Also, July and August if you go somewhere more remote - i.e. avoid Dubrovnik, Split (major tourist towns). There is a new magazine in WHSmiths - "Croatia Exclusive". I think this month's issue is only the 2nd one. My folks have a house with family apartments they rent out in Summer - located in small town of Senj (near Rijeka). Very quiet comparing to many, and very close to many great beaches - Crikvenica for example, also direct ferry to many islands such as Pag island etc.
