\link{http://www.somewheretogo.co.uk/suffolk.html\This may help} .

Second aldebrugh, also the bird reserves and the associated stretches of beaches are fabulous for walking, Orford oystery is a lovely little restaurant.

Suffolk wildlife Park, just outside Lowestoft, is good if you like zoos. It has a road train to take you round which my DS loved when he was 4

CHICagoMUM · 04/04/2006 18:48

The snape maltings are also worth a visit. Check to see what concerts/plays may be on when you are there.

orford castle is a laugh when open. there's a fab pub in bramfield, name escapes me for a slap up sunday lunch. think its the only pub, tbh.

CHICagoMUM · 04/04/2006 19:16

Bramfield pub is The Quen's Head, another good one for lunch is the Fox and Goose in Fressingfield.

abbey gardens in bury st edmunds.. they have some caged birds and ruins to climb, ducks to feed, a big park and it's all free... If u like horses u can watch them train on the heath at Newmarket too.. about 20 mins away..also a freebie!

misspastry · 04/04/2006 21:47

easton farm near woodbridge (about ihr from BSE) is an absolute delight, thetford forest - go ape all ropes and things but you can also hire bikes, southwold on the coast, lots of lovely shops for mum!, err all the usual sports centres, bowling alleys etc, depends on the wather, ooh spring lambs at kentwell just outside BSE, i live very near BSE, you'll have a great week, in BSE you can eat at very child friendly places such as ASK, cafe uno, pizza express etc, or buy a sandwich at the sandwich bar next to milletts in the market square, can't remember their name! and go down to the abbey gardens,

I lived in Bury about three years ago and the local swimming pool used to run a fab soft play session, a couple of times a week.

There is a lovely play area in the Abbey Gardens and I've got to recommend the refectory there, too, fab food at reasonable prices and very good with kids.

Colchester Zoo is great, too. Both Colchester and Bury have some good soft-play places if the weather is foul.

louli · 04/04/2006 22:57

Banham Zoo is a good day out and is not too far from Bury St Edmunds.

Utopia · 05/04/2006 10:24

Brilliant, I'm sure we will have plenty to do now! Thanks to all. BTW does anybody know The Ickworth?????????

Jimmy's Farm (off the telly) is just south of Ipswich. They have a nature walk now. Ds and dd loved it there.

3mum · 05/04/2006 18:45

Yes its lovely and I'm sure you'll have a nice time. They do pony riding on a lead rein in the park if you ask and you can get bike trailers and ride around the park. You probably won't need to go out lots but if you do:

Bury has a very good open air market on Datuday mornings (go before 10 or you won't be able to park).

Buy a Bury Free Press (the local paper) and it has a great What's On section which will tell you all the child friendly events.

2 nice pubs in Horringer (the village the Ickworth is in) Think The Beehive has the edge for ambience and quality of food.

The Plough Pub at Rede about 5 miles West (take main road towards Haverhill and look for the signs to rede) has a lovely large very quiet garden and the publican keeps caged birds in aviaries in the garden.

Feed the ducks on the village pond at Barrow.

Lavenham and Long Melford are both pretty villages less than half an hour away. Long Melford is stuffed with antique shops and has two Elizabethan houses open to the pubclic. Lavenham is very pretty timbered village with a good French restaurant (The Great House - do book)

If it rains there is a soft play centre- Activity World next to the railway station in Bury. Hope that helps!

tribpot · 05/04/2006 18:48

Bury's market is on Wednesdays as well as Saturdays. Not far outside it is the Anglo Saxon Village, which might be of interest to your little ones, although they're probably a bit young?

cupcakes · 05/04/2006 18:56

I had my driving lessons in Bury so I could tell you about some great cul de sacs for parallel parking Wink

Dior · 05/04/2006 21:00

Yes, I'll second Lavenham.

Dior · 05/04/2006 21:01

Ooh, and Dedham...on the Essex/Suffolk border. Just down the road from me! In fact, the woman in the craft centre there sells my cards!

mrspink27 · 05/04/2006 21:21

The Great HOuse is THE MOST FAB place to eat!!!! in Lavenham... dont waste your money on the Swan!
