we're going to la manga in june when our baby (yet to be born) will be about 13/14 weeks old and i wondered if anyone can recommend a travel sterilser if such a thing exists! i plan to you avent bottles and don't fancy taking the big steam sterilser as we will be laden down with buggies and toys for our 2 and a half year old
any tips gratefully received!

You can get bags from Mothercare that you use tablets in. We used them in France and they were good for travelling.

Agree with Musica - they take up next to no room for travelling and only need renewing every 24 hours - Tommee Tippee do them too. Otherwise if you have access to a microwave Lindam do bags which you can reuse up to 20 times and only take a few minutes.

Those Lindam bags are great as they just use steam. Must have a microwave in your apartment for them to be of any use.

You can use a simple tupperware box and sterilising tablets. I used to travel with the box full of bottles/milk powder etc and then fill it with water when we arrived anywhere. It must be one with a lid and try to keep stuff submerged (ie full of water so the lid keeps stuff under)
No need to buy anything special.

This would seem like a really good reason to breastfeed, or am I being controversial?

Grommit

tbh can't really remember as it was 2 yrs ago but probably Tesco or Mothercare. Details are here including stockists and possibly buy on line.

thanks for all your tips. i am due late feb and intend to breastfeed but will need a back up because last time, i was ill with a rare pregancy auto-immune disease which meant i had to be on oral steroids. this reduced my milk supply so i had to bottle feed at night. i'm really hoping this won't happen with this baby but am prepared for all eventualities!
the bags sound good so i'll toddle off to mothercare - failing that i'll take the tupperware!

Admittedly DS2 was older but I sterilised his bottle/teat by filling the bottle with water, adding 1/2 a sterilising tablet, filling the teat with the water when the tablet had dissolved and putting the teat point down in it. He didn't go down with anything nasty. In my mind, the main place for bacteria to lurk was in the hole of the teat which is difficult to clean with washing alone.

Buy steri bottles. May have to take a lot for 2 weeks though!

We've got a two-bottle collapsable steriliser somewhere - like this , so they do exist. Mostly just left it at my parents for occasional use though and took a tupperware box and sterilising tablets for holidays.

bobthebaby - not everyone is able to breast feed. and some people find it uncomforable whipping your boob out in public.
