I found a great farm cottage with farm animals and a swimming pool in Yourkshire. If you are interested I could try to find it again (I haven't stayed there, just like the look of it)

We went to Northumberland a year or so ago and it was beautiful. We rented a cottage near the sea which was lovely and really well maintained. I think the company we used (have used in 3 or 4 times now) is called Welcome Cottages - they do have a website.

Thanks, I'll check that out. Crunchie, I'd love it but am pregnant and don't think animal petting would be good for me. Will defo have a look for another hol though!

Quackers - I don't think there is any problem with being around animals when you are pregnant. I used to work on a farm and there were a couple of women their who had babies and carried on mucking out stables!

Check out Premier cottages website, I have never used them, but the cottages all look fab - I can't find the one I found before, joy of the net, but this looks good too here

They have loads all over the country and lots have swimming pools and pets/farm animals which are safe for you. We had a great holiday in Cornwall in a place like this with kids of 3 and 1

popsycal · 05/01/2004 20:58

could recommend lots of lovely places in the north EAST.....

JanH · 05/01/2004 21:43

Quackers, this is the Lake District Tourist Board's list of places with self-catering accommodation - obv you have to look at each location separately.

Have you tried English Country Cottages? They're usually good for cottage complexes with lots of facilities. this is their homepage, they have 2 sections covering that area.

Unless you really really want the Lakes I think Cheshire might be better in terms of things to do - not as far NW, I don't know where you're coming from though?

JanH · 05/01/2004 21:48

Oooh - have a look at Graythwaite in the Lake District section. This is one of the cottages. (Not cheap but v v nice!)

We stayed here when I was 5 months pregnant. Loads to do around and about, beautiful scenery. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Would go back in a minute. Washing machine and tumble dryer was useful, and very clean.

Thanks all for those fab ideas, will have a good look with DH tonight.
Popsycal - nothing against North East, just we will be travelling 4 hours by boat before we even hit the UK so the North West would be best.
Wanted winter sun but now think with me finishing work it will be be a bit to much money, so will be UK this time and your ideas look really good. Recommendations are always best!

I am going to North West England at the end of Jan/Feb (to be precise Preston)and am trying to find things to do with a 21 month old boy.

We will swim and go to the park etc but I would love to find some drop-in playgroups and things that I dont need to sign up for. I would also like to do Tumbletots if anyone knows of a local one. Have tried to search the internet but I cant find anything.

Any suggestions?

Beccarollover · 06/01/2004 21:39

Out of interest popsy - where in the NE would you recommend people visit?

JanH · 06/01/2004 21:54

collision (interesting name!) try netmums to start off with - not clear if you're visiting or moving? Anyway Rhubarb, a poster here, lives in Preston and is responsible for the Preston netmums site so she should be able to help.

Hi JanH

thanks for that website. It was fantastic and exactly what I was looking for. We are just visiting the relatives and I wanted to keep Max entertained!
