\link{http://www.piratepetes.co.uk/\Pirate Petes} Soft paly centre on the sea front great for rainy days.

Just beside Pirate Petes is a large play park, it can be a bit wind swept, but there is a large shelter for parents to huddle under.

LA Bowl, Miller Rd, 10 pin bowling and laser game. They have bumpers down the gutters for younger players.

\link{http://www.kidz-play.co.uk/\Kidzplay} softplay at nearby preswick.
\link{http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/ayr/ayr/\Page from undiscovered Ayr website}, bit of info for the grownups.

\link{http://www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/news/events.htm\Whats on guide} from the council.
\link{http://www.intayrnet.com/jindex.html?ayr/index.html\Town tour}.
\link{http://www.odeon.co.uk/pls/Odeon/Odeon_general.cinema_xyz?CINEMA=ayr\Odeon Cinema} in the centre of Ayr, there is a bigger newer Odeon on the outskirts of Kilmarnock about 30mins away(comfier seats for big legs).
\link{http://www.headsofayrpark.co.uk/\Heads of Ayr Farm Park}, about 15min drive south from Ayr. Good on a dry day, lots to do for all ages.
\link{http://www.loudouncastle.co.uk/\Loudoun Castle}, theme park at Galston nr Ayr.
\link{http://www.naleisure.co.uk/index.php?f=2\Vikingar}, viking visitor centre at Largs 35min from Ayr, Largs is a nice wee town too, with a couple of good sweetie shops.
\link{http://www.ayrshirescotland.com/castlevisits.html\Ayrshire Castles}
\link{http://www.ayrshirescotland.com/countryparks.html\Country Parks}, I would recomend \link{http://www.nts.org.uk/web/site/home/visit/places/Property.asp?PropID=10012&NavPage=10012&NavId=5111\Culzean} for a dry day trip, loads to see if you like that kind of thing, coastal and woodland walks with lots of little historic outbuildings to discover, shops, cafes. I have a NTS membership so I am there every week just to feed the ducks or go for a run. Family day ticket about £30.

\link{http://www.ayrshirescotland.com/ayrshirebusiness/indianrestaurants.html\Rupee Room} on this page I highly recomend, its my regular for take aways, lovely service if sitting in. Special prices for early dinners. For Chinese I suggest The Royal Blossom on the South side of the Harbour nr the Citadel swimming pool.
\link{http://www.ayrshirescotland.com/ayrshirebusiness/italianrestaurants.html\Bonfanti}, its a while since I have been but was cosy and freindly.
\Link{http://www.ayrshirescotland.com/ayrshirebusiness/ayrbars.html\West of the moon}, in the Town Centre, suprisingly good food for a pub/nightclub, has a huge beer garden and play area, not to warm for sitting out yet but if kids old enough you might want to turf them out anyway.
Dobsons Pantry on Newmarket St, town centre, is a bit of a greasy spoon cafeteria but food is good, again nice outdoor seating and playarea, small indoor play area too for little ones.
\link{http://www.chestnutshotel.com/\Cheastnuts Hotel}, bar area or restruant both are now no smoking and prices the same certainly at lunch time.
Poppelwells cafe at \link{http://www.gaietytheatre.co.uk/whatsonf.htm\The gaiety Theatre}, good simple food, soup and 1/2 bagette a good deal for lunch.

\link{http://www.ayrshire-arran.com/\Tourist Board site}.
\link{http://search.visitscotland.com/sitemakescotland.asp?userid=YFUUQAUVOG&executepage=ProviderInfo/VSTproviderpage.asp&providerid=3006486&survivallevel=2&templateextension=VST&sortorder=random\Burns Heritage Park}, various sites near each other. Brig O Doon Hotel bit posh but freindly and lovely meals, Will Young enjoyed his dinner recently Grin.
\link{http://www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/leisure/ctime.htm\Citadel}, council swimming pool, nr harbour in Ayr.

\link{http://www.ayrshirepaths.org.uk/find.htm\Ayrshire paths}, good signposted walks of various lengths. Marked routes mean you are not worrying about bulls or angry farmers with shot guns appearing. Auchencruvie has nice sheltered walks along the river that are OK even on drizly days. Straiton has more adventuorous walks as well as the pretty Lady Hunter and Church walk. These are all free of course.

\link{http://www.forestry.gov.uk/website/recreation.nsf/LUWebDocsByKey/ScotlandDumfriesandGallowayGallowayForestPark\Forestry Commision}, Galloway forest,\link{http://www.forestry.gov.uk/website/recreation.nsf/LUWebDocsByKey/ScotlandDumfriesandGallowayGallowayForestParkGlenTroolGlentroolVisitorCentre\Glentrool}.
What about a day trip to \link{http://www.scotland-inverness.co.uk/arran.htm\Arran}, \link{http://www.visitarran.net/transport/\Ferry times and prices}. It is expensive to take your car, I would leave it and get the bus around on the island, visit \link{http://www.nts.org.uk/web/site/home/visit/places/Property.asp?PropID=1004&NavPage=10040&NavId=5111Brodick Castle} about £25 for a family ticket.

Lots of things if you need any help just give me a shout! I live in Ayr!

Kidstrack2 · 29/03/2006 15:03

nikkie you can walk to the farm park, just 2mins down from where you are staying and it will just have opened too so you will get to see the baby animals!

Skribble · 29/03/2006 22:13

Ah Kidstrack you beat me to it about walking to the Farm Park.

Glasgow is good for a day out too, it takes about 50 min on the train and saves you trying to park. You can get family daytripper tickets which are valid on the underground, great if you want to venture out to any of Glasgows \link{http://www.glasgowmuseums.com/\free museums}. Our favourites are the Transport Museum and the Peoples Palace. The \link{http://www.glasgowsciencecentre.org/index.cfm\science centre} in Glasgow is great for a full day, it has a Imax cinema too. OK to take car too.

Kidstrack2 · 30/03/2006 11:01

don't forget too this weekend is free into historic scotland buildings! 1st and 2nd April!

Skribble · 30/03/2006 12:02

Thanks for the reminder, I might head to Edinburgh or Stirling castle Smile. There aren't that many in Ayrshire that you pay for anyway but, Stirling (normally £8.50) and Edinburgh (normally £10.30 for adults) would be worth the trip if they are free.

nikkie · 30/03/2006 20:06

Never thought of going to Glasgow-haven't been before that might be a good idea as its supposed to rain all week!

Your kids would love the \link{http://www.glasgowmuseums.com/venue/index.cfm?venueid=7\transport museum}, you can get the underground from the centre to it, kids love the underground too (The Clockwork Orange). As you can see on this \link{http://www.dcs.gla.ac.uk/mira/workshops/glasgow/map.jpg\map} the Transport museum (just above where its says YORKHILL on the left hand side) is right next to Kelvingrove Park, great place for a picnic lunch if it is dry, playparks and space to run about. Unfortunatly The Kelvingrove Gallery is still being renovated.

Our kids love \link{http://www.citikey.com/business/10102275?category=30274&city=Glasgow¤t=20&total=20\The China Buffet King}, all you can eat buffet including lots for kids, we prefer the one on WstNile St.
