For anyone who is interested, you cannot travel by plane until 14 days after giving birth.

Oooh didn't know that! Not that I would have wanted to... is it in line with the whole not being able to work again for at least 2 weeks?

hunkermunker · 18/03/2006 13:42

No, it's because other passengers don't want to see you. Too scary.

also if your baby is under 6 months they have to be on your lap the whole way. you can't buy an airline seat and have them in their car seat. also if your baby is 6 months the car seat has to be front facing.

bit stupid though really when they say the baby can fly from 7 days old, but the mother can't fly until 14 days after giving birth - roflmfao!!

I travelled 10 days after giving birth (non-pressureised cabin though) and dd was in the seat next to me in her car seat.

MummyToToby · 18/03/2006 13:50

what airline was that with? was the car seat facing forward or backwards?

OP posts:
Caribbeanqueen · 18/03/2006 13:51

That was abroad, car seat facing forwards.

Caribbeanqueen · 18/03/2006 13:52

I know someone who travelled transatlantic at 5 days (about 6 years ago).

MummyToToby · 18/03/2006 13:52

where were you travelling?

Caribbeanqueen · 18/03/2006 13:54

Between Caribbean islands.

MummyToToby · 18/03/2006 13:55

oh so the flight wasn't very long then if it was just between one island and another?

About 40 minutes.

bettythebuilder · 18/03/2006 14:21

As far as I remember the baby seat has to be forward facing because airline seat backs can push forward, so on impact the seat back could squash a baby in a rear facing seat.

nulnulcat · 18/03/2006 15:24

car seats have to be forward facing and you have to be able to get a lap belt under neath them, there are not many that are suitable
