We are off to cape town in October half term for 10 days and need to start planning and packing stuff. Has anyone been at that time of year? I ve heard it can be really windy, but is that windy and warm or windy and cold? Should we expect much rain, any advice much appreciated, ta.

The answer which you won't like is "Yes, all of the above".

Anoraks and fleece jumpers then.

Think of it like summer in Scotland and be prepared for all eventualities. Hot, cold, windy, sunny, wet, foggy.....

Where are you staying?

Lol, going to agree with prettybird. October, is in fact, known as the windy month here in the 'windy city'. So plenty of anoraks and fleece jumpers. That said at the moment we are having a lovely early spring. Enjoy your trip!

It's 11 years since I've been there in October. Can remember getting really cold down at Hermanus (lovely photo of 13 month old ds in Mountain buggy with waves crashing behind him and a whale in the distance) and then getting sunburnt the next day at the CIWG Golf Day in Stellenbosch.

When I went it was definitely not jumper and fleece weather more like 3/4 length trousers and t shirt weather. The wind is a lovely warm breeze.

It was like that most of the time when we were there but it could also be cold. I can remember having a lovely picnic lunch outside at Morgenhof and then having to eat inside at Delaire because a cold wind was blowing.

Freezing down at Hermanus and getting sunburnt in Stellenbosch.

Just like Scotland - probably why I feel an affinity with the place Wink although you can't make good wine in Scotland Grin
