really general question about prices... europe vs thailand

DH and I are having the chat about next years holidays. I know its all v dependent on which hotel you choose, but we wondered if any experienced travellers out there could give us some general tips on how europe compares to thailand for a 2 week holiday in a hotel with pools and kids club with kids (7 and 3 yrs) in summer holidays? We are not looking for 5 star luxury particularly, just lots of swimming and hopefully a few hours a day for grown up time.

Basically DH is wondering if thailiand is a lot more expensive or about the same as sardinia/majorca/turkey?

thanks everyone :)

looking on the Thomas Cook website it looks like 2 week All Inclusive in Majorca, 4 Stars during the first 2 weeks of August, would cost you about 4K. here

SoldeInvierno · 09/09/2012 16:55

and then looking in Expedia, you could get the Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya in Thailand for about 5K for Bed and Breakfast only. So, you would have to add the cost of lunch, dinners and drinks to that.

I have been looking for an hour and I can't find AI hotels in Thailand, or many with kids clubs, but maybe someone will come along in a minute with better knowledge than me

Thank you Solde

Does anyone else have any thoughts to add?
Would it rain a lot in Thailand in August?

August is rainy season in Thailand, so it may be a little risky. Also I would say Europe is better equipped for family holidays, whereas Thailand is very popular amongst the young backpacker crowd.

Mmm, thanks. I think it may be Europe then. Dont want to spend all that cash and then spend 2 weeks in the rain!

I went to Thailand in August for three and a half weeks and it rained twice for about an hour, both times were deeply impressive though, instant flooding Grin

It is an unbelievably beautiful and amazing country, I would love to go back.

We spent last two weeks of July and the first week of August in Thailand this year. We had one day of rain in 3 weeks. The most reliable weather at that time of the year is the gulf coast-( Koh Samui) Prices are fantastically low, we got all our accommodation via trip adviser and going direct to the hotels, traveled by public transport whole holiday cost 4K including Emirates flights. The kids had a blast and it was all so easy.

We went 7 years ago to Thailand, child-free and wait that DD is old enough to come as well, we think about going in 2014.

It is an amazing country, rich on history and cultural, amazing food and great scenery. And Koh Samui has great beaches.

If you just want beach holiday, then stick to Europe in Summer or think about going to the US.

I don't think I'd want to spend 14 hours flying to Thailand with children that young (and 14 hours home!) and the children will be just as happy in Majorca or Turkey. They just want sunshine, swimming pools and ice creams!
