We have only stayed in the Davy Crockett Ranch, which was great for us, but no experience of the hotels - sorry.

we have stayed in a gite a short drive away, which was quite nice to get out of disney for a bit and to have a day off in between - don't have to use passes on consecutive days.

cutekids · 14/03/2006 20:17

'scuse my ignorance...what's a gite?

If you are driving yourselves there the Ranch is great. You get free parking at the Parks, which are literally 5 mins away - straight onto maion road & off at first slip road. You can then come & go as you please without waiting for shuttle buses.

The pool at the ranch is fab, but we only stayed 3 nights,& didn't get time to swim in it - arriving late first evening so only saw the parade & went to bed, so had 2 full days in Park (only the 1 park open then), & home the next day after a few last minute early rides!

is it expensive?

sorry, cutekids, a cottage. We went with family, so was nice to have somewhere big to stay together and chill out between disney days, felt like having two kinds of holidays at once. Equally have heard the hotels are fab too.

About disney itself, i really didn't expect to like it as am not a huge disney or themepark fan, but have to confess we loved it!

cutekids · 14/03/2006 20:33

Oh that's good, cos i'm not a fair or theme park lover either. just thought while the kids are still young enough that it would be somewhere different for them. think i'll check on a few websites for prices etc. thanks again!

We're going at the end of May and I have booked the Holiday Inn at Disneyland Resort, after reading lots of good reviews about it (hope they are right!!). I booked it direct on their website and its much cheaper than through any agencies.

i want to live there.. if you're kids are a little older (aged 5+) and you just want a basic, clean room, the santa fe is excellent. my sis stayed at the cheyenne and that was fine too (she took 9mth old) we're not fussed about luxuries so was enough for us.. the train takes you straight to the resort, your bags are taken to your hotel, the passes are included, so you just walk into the park! i know lots of people say it's commercial and cheesey but who gives a rats arse.. my ds and my nieces were in heaven!
