restaurant for special occasion london for 18th birthday - but 4 year olds coming too

HI

going to London to take DN out for birthday lunch/afternoon tea/similar - she lives there but doesn't get chance to go to 'special occasion' type places much. also bringing my 4 year olds DCS (I did give her the option that I would come without them and we go somewhere more grown up but she wants to see them). So - any suggestions for special occasion type places that an 18 year old would like but also suitable for 4 year olds? Also 13 year old other DN coming too.

It will be a saturday, needs to be central london as we are getting train there and back, and not break the bank!

thanks

What's your budget?

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 30/08/2012 08:14

And which station are you coming into?

Onceortwice · 30/08/2012 08:19

Yes, definitely need an idea of budget and whether north or south London is better!

Is private dining an option at all?

Hard Rock Cafe? My teens love it for a treat and it has a kids menu.

Hi Paddington Station. Budget - eek! £150 - not inc drinks?

I was thinking of here (been before and I see they have a kids menu) but think is fully booked on the day we are going so looking for other options

what about Union Cafe in Marylebone? I love Brinkleys restaurants and their wine is super cheap too. No kids menu but will probably oblige you with a small portion.

or this place used to be amazing- haven't been there for a while. Gastro pub rather than restaurant but food was very good www.thenorth-pole.co.uk/menu.pdf

Hitting my stride now- just down the road from the roof gardens- the Abingdon- another gastro pub. I had my 30th birthday here.

Skylon by Waterloo is lovely. It has a children's menu, the adult menu is great and the cocktails superb! You can get a table with views over the south bank and the river, which I think is awesome, and is just a short hop from Paddington on the Bakerloo line.

to update, I did manage to get a table at the babylon and we had a fab time. plenty of wow factor for teenagers, fab looking restaurant, great cocktails and champagne but also young diners menu for the littlies, views over the gardens with flamingoes, ducks etc. had a wonderful afternoon it was a real special occasion topped off by some celeb spotting.
highly recommended.
