How old are they HA?

suzywong · 28/03/2006 04:50

hi chipmonkey

Oh a week in Sydney and Katoomba - lucky you. I lived in Blues Point Road for 6 months years ago, MacMahon's Point.
You must all walk over the bridge at least a couple of times, and isn't there a fantastic Science Museum thing a the Rocks.

hannahsaunt · 28/03/2006 05:08

Hi Suzy

Boys are 3 and 5. I'm definitely doing the bridge climb whilst dh and mum look after the boys. We're going to the market thing at the Opera House on Sunday morning (or at least mum is; depends on what else we decide to squeeze in). Am I right in thinking that you can take the ferry to Manly and have take away fish & chips at a Doyle's or have I just made that up? Doing scary train rides and sky rail things in Katoomba; I will read my book and try not to panic the boys Smile

eidsvold · 28/03/2006 06:24

yes - ferry to manly and fish and chips - fab cafes - Doyles is there - think it might be a bit expensive BUT if it is there are others there.

The botanical gardens near the Opera House are fab - there is a little train that goes around and does like a little tour.

DH and I had 1/2 our honeymoon in Sydney almost 5 years ago. What about the centrepoint tower??

There is a fab restuarant which we found via our guide books that is a steak place - you can choose all sorts - am sure dh had kangaroo.

eidsvold · 28/03/2006 06:24

you might be too early for the Easter show?? Worth checking out if you are not. Kind of like a huge county fair sort of thing.

eidsvold · 28/03/2006 06:25

sulking in sydney - why not come to Brissy for a weekend.... have a couple of days - think there ar promotions going for some of the hotels in the city at the moment.

arfissimeau · 28/03/2006 10:34

Hi Eids. It was me sulking. Can't be arsed to go through the name change now I have prove my blood type and send in my mother's birth certificate.

Am almost tempted for a jolly to Brissy (shouldn't that be Brisso?) but would have to bring DD and DP and book a hotel, and persuade DP that I'm not insane for meeting up with my mumsnet coven and try to get DD to sleep in a strange room now her dummies have been sent to the fairies etc etc etc.

Will send you a cardboard cutout instead. Grin. And arrange a sydney meet for me. On my own. Sniffle.

xoz · 28/03/2006 13:40

Hi. I'm not in Brissy, I'm in the Hunter Valley in NSW which is at least near Sydney arfissimeau.
My parents live in Sydney though (and I grew up there) so I go down fairly often.... we lived in the UK for 3 and a bit years but came back last year. We are both Aussies so I guess that means I don't really count as an expat, but maybe I can crash the thread too???

arfissimeau · 28/03/2006 13:59

Hello xoz! You are triply welcome, not only are you from the lovely Hunter Valley (UK lot: read wine production) but you are also close to Sydney and have experience of the UK (and like every Aussie, came home!).

Come on in! It's always nice to hear from expats wherever they come from.

suzywong · 28/03/2006 14:03

hello exoz

Cardboard cut out of me too when you do your Brissy Meet up. Airfares from WA are an arm and a leg

xoz · 28/03/2006 14:04

Thank you for your warm welcome arfissimeau (man that's hard to spell right!!!)
Are there not any more of us in NSW????? I haven't been on MN for about a year, pretty much since ds was born ( which was just after we returned form the UK), as I haven't really found the time, so I haven't had the chance to try to track down any others here in Oz much. Hopefully a few will appear.....

xoz · 28/03/2006 14:06

Thaks Suzywong. I envy you your Cascade... I am 4 months pregnant, so am abstaining at preswent which is a REAL pain when you live in the wine capital of Australia!

suzywong · 28/03/2006 14:07

Ahhhhhhhgoaaaaaaaaaaan, it's only a light beer

xoz · 28/03/2006 14:20

lol
I like to save my occasional antenatal bevvy for special occassions, I actually don't like most beer that much anyway, except for the alcoholic ginger beer that are out recently, have you tried them? YUMMMMM

suzywong · 28/03/2006 14:22

no I haven't, don't forget we don't get everything you have in the Modern East. I don't really like beer but there was one last cold one in the fridge door and it needed moving so I could get the 3L of milk in there.

So is hte CW Games over then? How many Medals did Australia get?

xoz · 28/03/2006 14:30

The sacrifices we have to make as mums!!!
Sorry I forgot you're over there in the wild west.
Yeah the CG's finished Sunday. I have no idea how many medals the Aussies won. I stopped looking, it was too embarrassing. It's a wonder anyone else turns up really. The other countries must all get sick to death of "Advance Australia Fair"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

arfissimeau · 28/03/2006 14:31

Congrats on your pg Xoz!

There are a few Aussies - SW, Eids, Yummi, HA, but I'm the only Sydneysider.

I'm arfissimo normally. Changed to a French version for a French thread.

SW. You know Australia got eight zillion gold medals. You always do. Did Britain (note the dropping of "Great") get any at all? I hadn't noticed.

Anyway, I'm off to bed, not least because I've got an interview in the morning (ooops, should have put the wine down much earlier).

xoz · 28/03/2006 14:35

Thak arfissimeau (actually it's not too bad now I'm getting used to it)
I must get to bed to, we were nearly late geting DD1 to school this morning, and I should be tired with the pg and all, but for some reason I'm not tonight, but no doubt one of my kids will get up at 6 to punish me for stay up past midnight.... hopefully we can chat again soon!

eidsvold · 28/03/2006 22:22

xoz - I too am not an expat - I am an aussie - from Brisbane who went to the UK and then brought dh and dd1 home with me.

hannahsaunt · 28/03/2006 22:22

SW - Oz got gazilions of medals partly because if Australia didn't win they made up a rule to disqualify whoever had won so that Oz would get the gold Grin. Can't complain - Scotland got lots more than we normally do and in random things like swimming which we don't really do at home.

Mum has decided that there are lots of things that she would like to do which involve driving long distances whilst the boys are at school/kindy which just isn't going to work and is now making me feel like we're ruining her Aussie experience. Oh well. She'll like next week in Sydney.

Xoz - reasons not to get pg whilst here #1 - fabby wine!

yummimummy · 28/03/2006 23:40

Hi Xoz, welcome Smile
Congrats on your pg.Is this numer 2?
Very envious of your Hunter Valley location.
The wine up here ( Qld) doesn't really compare.
Hannahs - your mum sounds like an adventurous type.
I've had trouble getting my parents to do anything when they visit.
I'm sure your mum will love Sydney.

suzywong · 29/03/2006 01:23

oh yes the Parents like a nice day trip in the car don't they HH. Park in a truck siding and get the thermos out half way along to make her feel really at home

suzywong · 29/03/2006 01:35

I know you should be HA, but I have and always will read your name as Hannah's Haunt
sorry

Bouj · 29/03/2006 04:42

Hi all, meet up sounds great - one without kids and me not being pregnant sounds like heaven! Got 5 weeks to go, during which ds turns 3 and we are having a birthday party... Mad, I know.

eidsvold · 29/03/2006 06:41

HA - can't you sign her up fopr day trips with the local senior cits - she could go along with them. I know they have lots of day trips from Brissy to all sorts of places.
