Anyone tried taking travel bubble cot onto plane to try get toddler to sleep in it on floor in front of seats?

Realise I'm clutching at straws but flying to oz with dd soon & she tends these days to only sleep if can lie down & is dark. Thought could take samsonite bubble travel cot which she outgrew very young but which I reckon I could squeeze her into as better solution than trying to get her to sleep on our laps?
Think the airline would let me do this?

We've flown with several airlines since we had DC and none of them have allowed children to sleep on the floor. I doubt very much you'd be allowed either the cot or to sleep on the floor. Sorry!

They wouldn't let us do that. Our best option was him sleeping on me, although that did mean I couln't move for a long time. At least he was asleep though, and I didn't get a DVT.

Unless you're flying first class, where will you put your legs if DD is asleep on the floor?

Likewise, don't think airlines let kids sleep on the floor

How old is DD?.

No they won't I am sorry to say. Airlines do not let anyone sleep on the floor due to risks of turbulence.

Airlines want all people, including kids to be strapped in as much as possible. My kids used to have a snuggle blanket and wrap their heads in that. Does your child never fall asleep in the car?

leannac · 27/08/2012 14:25

Sadly not. My dd is 17 months old & since she was 8 months old she has just stopped sleeping anywhere except in a cot. She doesn't even sleep in car on our 4 hr trips back to see my family. No matter how well I time the trips!

It was worth asking anyway so thanks for replies. I was happy to try & curl up on a seat for the flight if it meant dd sleeping but I guess I will have to try get her to sleep on me instead & accept we may both spend a lot of the flight awake!

Is it too late to buy her a seat? I managed with a 19 month old on my lap to Oz, changing at Singapore. It wasn't great but it was ok. On the way back there were spare seats on the second leg of the trip so had an extra free seat, it made a massive difference I have to admit.

Can I recommend a sling if you don't already have one? I use a mei tai with my 17mo really only on planes nowadays and eventually she will pass out on me. The airlines seem okay to leave them be if they are strapped to you. I think kids are more manageable if they are strapped to you, especially if there are delays.

I've just come back from Malaysia on Emirates airlines and the staff brought out a travel bed and put it on the floor for a family travelling with their baby in the front seats of economy. This was an overnight flight and the baby had to be strapped in for take off as normal. Maybe it depends on the airline.

No they won't besides where will you put your legs. If you are at the bulkhead then see what they can offer bassinet wise. If in a standard row there is barely enough room for people yet alone a cot.
