Paris Playgrounds?

We're planning a week in Paris, in April. I'm expecting to spend half my time sitting in playgrounds, so want to stay right next to one. Where are the really good ones? I'm looking near the Luxembourg Gardens, what else is good?

Why will you spend half your time in a playground? Smile, just wondered.

Citroen Parc? La Villete is very good (not sure about the playground was freezing cold when I visited but there were plenty of interesting to do for a little one)

\link{http://www.cite-sciences.fr/english/ala_cite/villette/global_fs.htm\Park de Villette} has all sorts plus the science museum. The Cite has a special kids areas where you pay for a 2hr sessions and work your way round all the hands on science exhibits. Loads to do in the whole place for kids, free aquarium area, imax, submarine, great for a rainy day.

I will be in the playground half the time because my kids are 17 months and 4.5. You can do museums and shopping with the 4.5-year-old, but the 17-month old just doesn't have the patience, in my experience.

I think I've been to Parc de Villette before, maybe. Is there a nice little shopping arcade bit, that's open on a Sunday?

I'd be curious to stay a bit further out, maybe, I'll look in the 19th.

I normally do museums at DS's nap time (not sure how it will work with two kids though).

On the side of the Louvre, just in front of the Design museum, there's a square and right behind it there's parc that has asmall playground where you can tire them out while reading a book and as soon as the small one falls sleep you can run to to the Louvre :)

DS2 is pretty good about not legging it, he likes to be near DS1.

Hmm, I guess I'll look at accommodation and see what fits.

There is also another playground near the Pompidou.

NQC, where are you staying? I am looking for somewhere to stay for a couple of nights in Aug but have never been to paris before and have no idea where to stay with 2 kids.

NotQuiteCockney · 15/03/2006 13:59

Maudy, I'm looking at a few places, in Arrondissements 12, 13 and 20. The websites I'm using to look are: \link{http://www.vrbo.com\vrbo} and \link{http://www.homelidays.com\homelidays}.

A friend spoke highly of playgrounds in those arrondissements, and in 8, I think. He lives in 20, so I'm more tempted by houses near him.

I have stayed in the Marais and also in the area of St Gervaisestayed in the Marais district, the nice thing was that it was in walking distance to most attractions (but beware, there are lovely areas and well, the red district as well, which is not a problem as long as you avoid secondary streets) I used Lastminute.com to find the place, mainly because it provides the result in a map. Venere.com has also a similar system.

NotQuiteCockney · 16/03/2006 06:43

Le Marais is nice, that's where we were last time (got somewhere via \link{http://www.rentparis.com\here}). But there are no playgrounds in that area, so it wasn't great. But then, I had only one kid, now with two, it's just easier to be near something they'll enjoy.

It is very annoying that none of the sites I've found that rent out flats link their flats to really good maps.

There was a playground a couple minutes walk from our hotel. There were at least other 2 at 10 min walking distance (The ones mentioned below). ANd there were some big squares with plenty of space for a good run...
