It seems to cost a fortune so I would like to get it right as we will only be doing it once as mine are 8 and 3 I fear the time is nigh! Where should we go? 2/3 or 4 nights and any must dos...tvm

We did Lapland, once in a lifetime, .... we're hoping to go back for the 3rd 'once in a lifetime' this year Grin

Mine were 17, 11, 7 and 5 when we last went. We chose to be in a ski resort to enable dh and eldest ds to go skiing for a day. Even though the 2 eldest knew Santa was not real, the trip was still magical for them - both times Wink The big man himself is soooooo the real Santa! You think it's all about Santa, but when you get there you soon realise it's not - it's all just so magical. The thick almost constant falling snow, the true reindeer with snow covered antlers, the picture postcard snow scene surroundings, the working huskies, snow mobiling .... I could go on forever!

We went both times for 4 nights, full board. Food is not fantastic, it's traditional so takes some getting used to. Eating out is pretty much the same kind of food, I think we saved a lot by going full board. Do all the excursions you can afford, that way you'll not regret and be thinking I wish I'd done this or that. Whichever resort you choose you'll get pretty much the same holiday/experience.

We paid the same for our 4 night stay as we would have for a daytrip Shock

We booked 4 nights with Thomson. it was brilliant. So glad we did it and much more reasonable than some other companies.

Esprit are sopposed to be very good too. Go as far north as you can and later in Dec as poss (close to xmas) to guarantee snow. We went to Yllas which had good snow.

Hi blue rabbit!

We have booked to go this year with thomsons too! Fly 16th December from Manchester! 2 adults and 2dds aged 7 and 5. I'm so excited! We are staying at the holiday club in Saariselka.

I have researched the trip for several months as I wanted to get it right. I fancied the esprit trip but for the same hotel and resort the price was 3.5k! I booked early June for 3 nights for £2290 with thomsons online. Prices on the 16th start at £2095 from Manchester for a family of four for 3 nights so very reasonable compared to other operators!

The are less reviews for Thomsons though as they only started going to Lapland last year but I contacted a few customers through trip advisor for comments and all said it was fab.

Be careful which resort and date you choose as snow was very late last year and I believe people in rovaniemi had to be bused out to activities! Also some of the thomson resorts have you meeting Santa at a gala meal which you may think is less personal.

We have booked the saariselka trip as a) it's the most northern resort and always has snow in Dec and b) they go the same place as esprit for their Santa activity day and you go on a private snowmobile-sleigh ride for 10 mins searching for santas cabin in the woods!

Their website is cheaper than in store plus I think they may be trying to fill flights 1 at a time as the 16th (peak week really) is up to £600 cheaper than other dates to manchester!

Crystal ski are doing a fab package or a week on the 16th to ruka for about £2200 inc four days of activities! I would have booked this but they only fly from Gatwick.

Well I've booked with esprit from Manchester on 7 December at the same hotel as you sunny day so if I have any top tips I will be sure to let you know....never thought you would hear me say this but roll on winter woop woop!

thats fab! the resort and hotel do look great. I did fancy a log cabin but they worked out so much more expensive plus i think a nice warm hotel might give the kids some respite from the cold. Not sure how much swimming we'll do but nice to have the option!

i'm the same though- so excited! I've been picking up bits and bobs over the past month (clothes wise) which has got me even more in the mood for winter. Once the kids go back to school next week it'll feel much closer!
