Sorry, another Ryanair question

I am flying on Monday with my one year old DD - do I need to fit her 'nappy/travel/snack bag in my bag or will they let me carry it separately?
I did pay for a travel cot which we are now not taking, nor are we taking a buggy - will this mean they will allow me a little slack?

Hi I flew back on Tuesday from Spain and will never ever fly with them again out of choice. But to answer your question they were very strict with the one bag rule at both airports. Both times all hand luggage had to be fitted into the special measurement cage and it was one bag only. My mum put her handbag inside a bigger bag to make use of the 10kg weight rule. The only bag they weighed was the one that went in the hold. bloke in fronts bag was too fat and he had to put on several layers of clothes to make the bag fit in the cage no wonder they start checking you in an hour before the plane has arrived.

Oh dear - okay, am going to have to repack.

Sorry about that Sad Ryanair is all about getting extra money from you and I wouldn't risk being charged for extra luggage, I guess a lot depends on how fussy they are at your airport.

NorbertDentressangle · 24/08/2012 21:23

They will not allow you a second bag (I was made to put a small cross body bag in my hand luggage).
They will weigh and measure hand luggage right up until the point you step on the plane.
They will not allow you anything beyond what it states in their terms and conditions.
They will not cut anyone any slack.
I will never fly Ryanair again if there is any other alternative.

NorbertDentressangle · 24/08/2012 21:25

Sorry, That sounded a bit harsh.

I meant to add a 'sorry' to the end of my post.

It was the first time I had flown with them and on the return flight people were literally fighting each other for seats I was horrified at the way people were behaving and the so called stewards did nothing to help people board safely and don't get me started on the litter and dirt on the plane. I so enjoyed filling in there email asking for feed back.

Ryanair is awful awful awful, but the planes are always full so I suppose they don't care.

I have no time for RyanAir, but to be fair, many airlines are the same. I just flew from LA to San Francisco with American Airlines and there was no luggage allowance at all! Had to pay $25 per case.

But I found myself getting a bit Hmm with US Airlines, who say you can have a carry-on bag plus a handbag/laptop case. Saw dozens and dozens of people in the queue to board with 2 large-ish stuffed carry-ons each, plus handbags and so on. What then happened was that by the time we boarded (last group, as always Angry ) all the overhead bins were full. Stewardesses didn't say a word.

Hi clam

I've seen that as well re the carry on bags. Its to avoid all these baggage charges, have also seen some struggle with the weight of said bag to lift them into the overhead lockers. Many Americans too are very price oriented when it comes to airfares; they will often choose the cheapest fare regardless of how many other charges there are.

BTW we got stung for baggage charges too for a US internal flight but have obtained a refund from the airline who agreed we should never have been charged in the first instance!.

viagra

Ryanair will cut you no slack whatsoever. I would take one bag, they may or may not wish for you to place this in their bag bin at check in. It very much depends on their attitude on the day.

Honestly viagra, would use another carrier next time around. Cheap is not always cheerful.

Oh, I've flown with them before many times but unfortunately it is the only way to get to my mums - the flight is only 1 hour 20 mins with them or 2 hours and a two hour car journey to fly to the nearest BA served airport. They have me over a barrel Angry I'm normally very good at packing light, I just didn't factor in nappies and snacks for DD.

How many snacks will she need on a flight that short? And nappies?
If the nappies are for the whole time away, why not buy them once there?

amirah85 · 25/08/2012 13:53

Bring a backpack, fold ur empty bag in it for u to use when u are at ur mums.backpack have lots of pockets so as long as weight and size is fine shouldn't be a prob.I fly ryanair all the time, don't like it but no choice as well to go to my family,as long as u follow the many, silly rules u should be fine :-)

planetpotty · 25/08/2012 14:58

I flew with Ryan Air and 3 children last month and was very worried after hearing horror stories. I printed off the terms and conditions a and read them twice. As long as you stick to their rules all will be fine Smile the measurements of the bag allowed for hand luggage is well enough for what you and your baby will need inflight. Have a good trip Smile

mrsnec · 25/08/2012 15:16

They have always been very strict with me too. I've even had small airside purchases taken off me as the wouldn't fit in my hand luggage! Only my copy of Hola and my Boots meal deal!
