Do we need to take the milk powder or ready mixed cartons? Has anyone else been to Turkey with baby, if so what did you do. Also what foods did you give baby, need to avoid fruits washed in tap water etc but limits things a bit... would you take a few jars/pouches? Thanks...

my son was 1 1/2 first time we went to turkey i used bottle water to make his feeds other than that he ate of hotel menu.
the 5 of us been to turkey 3 times now different areas and none of us has had sore tummy or any kind of gastric upset at all.
i took disinfectant wipes to use in kitchen where i was prepping the bottles.
just common sense and you should be good.

A friend took cartons out for her 10-month-old - about 40 but they went for a week.

I have just come back from Madeira with a 7-month-old. I took cartons, got milk at the airport (Boots and Superdrug will pre-order) and got milk out there (did Aptamil but not C&G, SMA or Hipps).

It depends how long you are going for and how much your LO drinks. If it's just a week and she drinks 3 or less bottles, I would recommend cartons. It saves on the worry of making milk up and also I found easier when out and about which is why I took cartons.

If you are going for two weeks (My LO drank 4-5 bottles a day) I would recommend taking cartons - at least one a day for when out and about - and buying two tubs at the airport airside of security. I needed two cartons just for the flight there and the flight back so don't forget to pack for those!

I lived in Turkey when my DD was a baby. I breastfed but I know it isn't always easy to get all brands of forumla so best take powder with you and mix it up with bottled water.

Don't worry about the tap water it is fine for washing fruit, I always washed my food in tap water, I even cooked with it. It is actually perfectly safe but it has a lot of minerals so it doesn't taste too good.

You can sterilise with milton tablets and tap water.

At 11 months I would give my DD all kinds of cooked vegetables, pasta, rice, chicken and fish, eggs, anything really.

Don't worry too much, you will be fine Smile

You can buy your nappies and wipes out there easy enough but bring nappy sacks as you can't get them.

Where are you staying?

We took DD at 13m so milk wasn't an issue (she drank UHT, didn't seem to notice it wasn't fresh. Cucumber, bread, cheese (white and yellow) and houmous were staples but basically she had a little of everything. Oh, those were the days...

Going in 2 weeks with DD now 3 and 6m DS. BFing him so again milk not an issue but holiday company did offer to get formula in advance if we needed, with proviso that not all brands are available everywhere.

When we went with DD still in nappies we found pampers available everywhere but mostly baby dry ones - not active fit etc. didn't see huggies. We didn't need that many though as during the day she was in a swim nappy most of the time. Disposable swim nappies were expensive, take your own or an integrated costume.this time I'll take one pack of sposies plus DS's nappy swim shorts and a couple of reusables (for under uv suit).

Take your own swim ring or armbands too if you want decent ones. We didn't as DD has always swum without but we went for a gulet day trip (small one, not a sardine tin) and wanted something so DD could swim in sea with us when we were both out of our depth. Best we could find was an inflatable floating island complete with inflatable palm tree canopy!

As others have said, tap water's fine for washing fruit and veg. Have fun.

I used Turkish brand nappies as they are a quite a bit cheaper than Pampers but just as good. The best ones are Molfix, Can Baby and Evy Baby, Pampers are called Prima if you do decide you want them.

I agree with the reusable swim nappies, they are great.
