Never taken kids abroad and me and dh planning a trip to the sun next May. where? On a budget so need cheap as poss and probably Spain is best though would love Italy!

I don't want to drive so need fligts direct. Are packages best? Have had a look but some of the family friendly hotels look a bit ott for me. Too much laid on 'entertainment'.

Any suggestions re resorts or places any of you have stayed. Any advice really would be good. Thanks.

We are also planning a holiday for that week! It's a good time to go abroad as it's not a school holiday in most of Europe.

We recently stayed at the Surfing Playa Apartments in Santa Ponsa, Mallorca. We are so impressed with how good they were, considering the price, that we are considering going back next year for half term. For that week it is around £240 for a 1 bedroom apartment if you go through Alpharooms or similar. The kids slept on the sofa bed in the lounge, which also had a pull out bed underneath. For the price it was excellent. Lovely pool, supermarket across the road and at the quiet end of Santa Ponsa.

We figure flights would be around £400 for 4, so that's a week's holiday for under £700.

Failing that we usually go to Center Parcs in Holland or France. No sun there though.

A belated thanks. Will have a look at that?

Can recommend Coveta Fuma in the Costa Blanca, small village with little cove, witha lifeguard, really shallow and safe for kids. Just enough bars / playground to keep little ones happy but not so many that they keep you awake at night!

Also, Coveta Fuma is only half an hr away from Alicante so easy to get taxi. once there it's on a tram line which runs up and down the coast so you really don't need a car. Tram is cheap, dead easy to use and spotlessly clean.

Thanks.
