New Year trip

A bit early I know, but can anyone give me some inspiration for a cheap - ish short trip for New Year for me, DH and 2 year old DD? I'm already depressed and dreading the autumn, and truly hate new year, but the thought of yet another year of being drunk with DH watching the fireworks on the telly makes me want to go hide. Could really do with something to look forward to but can't think where would be good to go. Any ideas gratefully received!

Well what sort of thing are you into? Do you love the great outdoors? Would a city break be better? Can you afford to leave the country or does it have to be UK based (assuming thats where you are)? Ooh can get almost as excited about someone elses break as my own!! Should have been a travel agent...

Oo, niggle can you help me? Looking for a cottage over new year with 4 bedrooms somewhere Nottingham to leicester sort of area - between Leeds and London not too far from m1. Any ideas where to start looking?

Hi Niggle,

I'm a great outdoors kinda gal, but DH (a wuss) had sworn he'll never camp again! Leaving the country is no problem, its just a matter of keeping the cost down. I'd love to see the new year in on a caribbean beach for example, but the nice man at the bank would have a heart attack :-D. Would equally love to do hogmanay in Edinburgh but I think its maybe too expensive, and not very toddler friendly (could be wrong, though). I guess I'm just looking for some inspiration, something quirky and toddler friendly but not too expensive (or DH will veto)

thanks for your reply!!!

Another MN'ter here who loves organising trips.
What sort of budget are we looking at Lions and Hermione?

Best ever new year was in Stockholm. You get tickets for a big park and kids go too x

Hi WingedHarpy,

I guess we could stretch to around 500 to 700 for trip, but ideally I'd like to spend less than that. I was hoping to just go for a 2-3 of days really to cover maybe new years eve, day, day after or something like that. So if we fly it will need to be short haul.

Stockholm sounds lovely (sigh!) :-D
