Will we need a cardigan for the evenings please? We will be coastal, near Olu Deniz.

TIA

no -definitely not. We were there at the end of may and didn't need one so you definitely won't in august.

mckenzie · 15/08/2012 20:15

thanks Hersetta

We're off to near Olu Deniz soon too McKenzie (Lykia World)
Agree with Hersetta, from previous experience of Turkey, you definitely shouldn't need a cardigan for the evening.

AlmostAHipster · 15/08/2012 23:35

We came back from Side a week ago - it was stiflingly hot even at night - over 106 degrees some days.

mckenzie · 16/08/2012 07:54

thanks guys. GreenGoldSilverAndBronzeShadow, that's where we are going. We are staying in the hotel for a change as have been twice before and stayed in village. DH's idea. I'm really really nervous about it for some reason. It kept me awake last night as I had a dream that our room had no windows and was really dark and dismal.

Are you staying in the village?

OP posts:
GreenGoldSilverAndBronzeShadow · 16/08/2012 15:36

WE're not actually sure where we are staying mckenzie.
Our booking with Thomas Cook just says 'Standard Rooms', so I am assuming it means the village. We're not that bothered either way. From what I have read there are pros and cons to both sorts of accommodation.

Any tips for us Lykia newbies ?
We're taking teenager boys with us (17 and 13) - what age are yours?

mckenzie · 16/08/2012 17:24

I don't think I can think of anything that might help you as our two are y

OP posts:
mckenzie · 16/08/2012 17:30

I don't think I can remember anything that might help you as our two are younger (11 and 7).
The Marina restaurant is fab! But they didn't have enough tables in the shade when we were last there and if you eat at 7/7.30 it's still baking hot.
Always football, every night down by the marina. Young ones first them older boys, seemed they catered for everyone, there were always loads playing.
Gym in the hotel is air conditioned and nicer but you have to pay small fee to use it, gym In village has no air con but it's free.
Water fountains say 'No water bottles to be filled' but we always did ours.
Childrens paradise fab for all ages.
Have you been to turkey before?
When do you arrive?

OP posts:
GreenGoldSilverAndBronzeShadow · 16/08/2012 17:51

Thanks mckenzie
Like the water fountain tip - didn't realise they had those there.

We go on the 25th for one week.

mckenzie · 22/08/2012 11:13

Hi from Lykia GreenGoldSilverandbronze.
Guess what? They have done away with the water fountains! You can still fill bottles in the restaurants (the signs say you can't but no one has stopped us so far). Large bottles of water to buy are 75 cents and small ones a 25 cents. If it might want an inflatable, bring it ith you. They are sold here but are ?30!

Will I spot you when you arrive I wonder? We leave on 31/8.

Hello McKenzie (I've name changed back to my pre-Olympic name by the way).

Pity about the water fountains, but thanks for the tip about the restaurants.

I'll try and remember to post on here when we arrive - maybe we could meet up. Can you PM from a phone?

annieshaf · 22/08/2012 18:39

We will be arriving in lykia world from 24th. Will be our 5th visit and we love it. Haven't been in August before tho so am a bit worried about the heat! We have always filled water bottles at meal times and never had a problem.

I didn't know the village gym was free so thanks for that tip although not sure it will be usable if no air con.

If you are unfortunate enough to see a loopy looking woman trying to jog up the hills at 6am it will most likely be me trying to work off all that lovely food!!

GreenShadow · 22/08/2012 22:19

I have no intention of being up at 6am Annie. A few laps of one of the pools will have to do for me.

Are you in the Residence or the Village side ?

annieshaf · 23/08/2012 17:39

Hi greenshadow
I know what you mean about being up so early but it's the only time of day it will be cool enough!

We are booked into a standard family room in the village but it's possible that we might negotiate/pay for an upgrade when we arrive depending on the price they quote us. I like the 2 bed family rooms in the village or failing that the residence rooms are a bit bigger although the decor is a bit dated!

GreenShadow · 23/08/2012 20:17

A 2-bedroomed family room would suit us too, but when we booked there were none available. just hoping they haven't put us too far away from the DC, although at 17 and 13, they are old enough to cope if not next door.

mckenzie · 24/08/2012 18:59

Hi guys, Internet connection is sporadic (they really are quite behind the times here on a few things aren't they? Gym equipment in the residence is ancient!).
I've been swimming a lot and using the gym and running (I find it hard to sit still).
The residence adults only pool is great for lane swimming at most times of the day. I've only seen a crowd on lilos in there once this week. But today I went to the residence side of the beach and OMG - it was heaven. It's obviously quite salty as swimming was so easy. And the fish were everywhere.

BTW, we've been in July before and we think this is definitely a little cooler in the evenings this time. And the beach is by far the coolest place to be. Especially the loungers in the harden area amongst the trees. Heaven.

We've all had swimming lessons too as the coach is lovely and I'm very proud of myself because I can now do tumble turns! So if you see a mad woman with very short hair doing tumble turn after tumble turn... That's me.

Annie-I ran at 9 the other day and did a 30 minute warm up (warm being the word!) but then found a shady hill behind the residence gym and did a hill session instead of a longer run. The shade made it really manageable, honest.

Hi Mckenzie
Was going to try running tomorrow morning. Didn't manage to get up in time today as we only arrived at 1 this morning! Maybe I will try that tho. Was going to concentrate on hills rather than distance as its hard to a pod them. Hope you having a great hol. We have been at the residence pools with ds's this morning but they are hot and have gone for a sleep now so have had a peaceful hour by the pool on my own for once!

annieshaf · 25/08/2012 14:26

Avoid!! Not a pod!

mckenzie · 27/08/2012 12:43

Hi annieshaf, dd and I have been at residence pool this morning - DS is poorly. I've just come back from the doctors, ?100 lighter and with ears drops for every 30 mins then back at 5.30 to see whats going on. Did you run this morning? We did two laps then the hill just behind the residence gym, it's nice and shady. Will do it again Thursday if you want to join us. Can't do tomorrow or Wednesday because of early morning boat trip and scuba diving.

OP posts:
annieshaf · 27/08/2012 18:37

Hi mckenzie
I did a run Sunday morning so didn't bother today. Managed to do 4 and a bit laps which was about 10k I think. Was lovely at 6:30 and not too hot! Will probably run tomorrow and thurs so could join you thurs morning. Would be nice to have company! Just let me know what time you usually go.
Sorry to hear about your ds not being well, it is one of my biggest fears here that one of mine will fall Ill, hope he is feeling better soon. We were also at the residence pool for most of the day today I was with the 2 young boys with shark sun suits on! The boys love the two slides there and ds1 had a practice with his snorkel. Great fun!

Enjoy your boat trip and scuba diving- would love to take ds1 diving but will need to wait a few years for that as he's only 6.
