DH has been to Sharm, but on his own, scuba diving. We went to Iceland on honeymoon - it was great - can't wait to go back when the DCs are a bit olderGrin. But not somewhere to go if you want to lie around and relax in the sun, obviously Grin. Hope you find somewhere lovely.

GDG · 10/03/2006 11:16

We went to the Maldives. Can't beat it!

roosmum · 10/03/2006 11:18

cook islands.

dream of going back one day...one day!

mrspink27 · 10/03/2006 11:25

We went to Rome, as I was pg and didnt fancy long haul. originally supposed to be Zanzibar tho... one day we'll get there.... one day!

bluesky · 10/03/2006 16:37

mummy23, we have been to egypt and are going back for our 3rd time.

We do it as a 'stay in hotel' holiday, just lounge on beach or by pool, and that's it. We don't explore or anything. Did the culture bit the first time, now we just go to enjoy the weather, the amazing service, and the fantastic fish in the sea. It's not a long flight.

Look at The Hyatt Regency, it's just outside the main town, great restaurants. Transfer from airport is short. It also has great reviews on tripadvisor.com. It'll be hot, but there is a nice breeze.

We went to Hawaii - a week in Honolulu and a another week in Maui, which was beautiful. I would recommend a longer stay in Maui though.

WestCountryLass · 10/03/2006 21:00

Sri Lanka, it was fabulous!

My other choice would ahve been Hawaii :)

bettythebuilder · 10/03/2006 21:17

Went to Malaysia (Penang and Langkawi) and Singapore for honeymoon, and it really was fabulous - there aren'y many all inclusives out there though, as it can be very cheap to eat out of the hotel.
We've also had excellent all inclusive hols in the Dominican Republic, Mexico (Puerta Vallarta side) Jamaica (all pre-sprog!) and more recently in Turkey, where the hotel and service was excellent.

Congratulations on your forthcoming marriage. Mauritius - in fact we got married there. Just amazing Smile
We went to Sharm last August with two ds's and stayed AI in the LTI Grand Azure. Lovely hotel but I wouldn't rush back to Sharm unless it was the last leg of a Cairo/Luxor trip.

Is your wedding early or late July? After the kids have broken up prices will obviously be much higher and availability probably quite limited by now. Have you chosen Sharm for any particular reason - for the diving perhaps. If not I might be tempted (dependent upon your budget) to chose somewhere more 'adult' - like the Maldives, or a small Caribbean island like St John or St Kitts or the Turks and Caicos Islands or even the Bahamas (although check the weather because you might be heading towards the rainy season - we've been to Barbados and Antigua in August and the weather was nice though). If you want somewhere a little nearer (but very hot in July) you might want to consider Dubai - the hotels are amazing.

We went to The Maldives and it was wonderful, very long flight though. I'm just off to look at the pictures.......

jetsetmum · 10/03/2006 21:45

Feel like I'm copying copycat Grin

I went to Maldives for my honeymoon - stayed on Veligandu - perfect intimate island that really helped us un-wind after the wedding - we went last two weeks in July - weather was great. I also learned to Scuba Dive - excellent schools

If considering the caribbean you have got to look at these resorts - fantastic quality, designed for wedding & honeymoons - double sunbeds, romantic meals etc \link{http://www.secretsresorts.com\Secrets Resorts}

Would also say that Hyatt Regency is the one if going to Sharm

Tortington · 10/03/2006 22:06

towyn. it is not recommended

bettythebuilder · 11/03/2006 10:47

Lol, custardo. Why not?

cece · 11/03/2006 10:56

Kenya on Safari - very good - hope to go again soon.

orangina · 11/03/2006 11:33

Egypt in July will be SERIOUSLY hot, are you sure that's what you want? .... we honeymooned in Sicily in June, and it was hot (enough, 30 degrees) and blissful, gorgeous food, lovely Italians, beautiful sea. 100000% recommended.....

alliebaba · 11/03/2006 11:37

my m & d are there now.. it's boiling already.. will be baking in July. They love it, and said the people are wonderful, drive like nutters though, whilst singing very loudly

orangina · 11/03/2006 11:39

The aeolian islands off sicily are heavenly.

We've booked the date for july 22nd, and we are hoping to fly on either the 23rd or 24th for a two week holiday without ds1+2 (they are going away with grandparents on the thursday after we marry anyway) We have a budget of 2000 pounds to spend, but dp ideally want to go all inclusive to somewhere different that has something to do and i want some entertainment in evening

DH and I went to Sharm for a diving course. In September it was 40 degrees when we got off the plane at midnight! Far too hot for me, you literally couldn't sit outside in the middle of the day, we just hid in the airconditioned hotel and dive centre.

For our honeymoon we went to Rome which I loved but then I'm really interested in history, archaeology and food so it was ideal on all fronts.

Sponge · 13/03/2006 13:56

We went to Thailand for our honeymoon (fab) but I have been to Sharm. It's hot, relatively inexpensive for very good hotels, and the snorkelling / diving is fantastic. We pretty much stayed in our hotel but we ate out once. The local town does have discos, casinos etc if you're up for that type of thing but it's a divers place - young and sporty, not v upmarket - so could be fun but unlikely to be romantic. I would go back to dive or if I wanted a well priced, guaranteed sunshine holiday. We stayed in the Ritz \Carlton which is v good and has a great lazy river which you can float around on. The Hyatt is also excellent and the Four Seasons. Lots of other pretty good hotels but these are the best ones.

ProfYaffle · 13/03/2006 13:58

Heh heh - young and sporty, that's us! (we wish)

Sponge · 13/03/2006 14:10

Nor us. That's why we stayed in the hotel Grin.

willow2 · 13/03/2006 14:14

Orangina - where did you stay/would you recommend?

Nemo1977 · 13/03/2006 14:15

We went to egypt for our honeymoon. We spent a week in luxor which was dinner bed and breakfast. Absolutely the best holiday I have ever been on. The second week we went to hurghada in egypt which was pretty much like beach holiday. All inclusive and lovely but could have been anywhere in the world not just egypt.
I think I loved egypt that was egypt if that makes sense. So going to luxor was fabu;lous and we plan on doing it agsin in a few years.

bagpussmice · 13/03/2006 18:24

went to Madagascar for our honeymoon and travelled around the country for 3 weeks - fab!

have been to Sharm when I was pg with dd1. loved it there - stayed in a Hilton hotel which was gorgeous.. food was great, private beach with loungers/towels etc.. good snorkelling, dh did some diving.. great holiday, in fact the last one pre-kids!!
