If you're from the Yorkshire area I would definitely recommend taking a trip to The Deep. My DC love it - even dragged hubby along and think he was even more interested than the kids!

The Deep .

Ticket info

One of my fave things about The Deep is that it's open on Boxing Day. It's always very quiet as most people don't realise (they shut on Christmas Eve instead).

It's got stuff for kids of all ages up to teens, but be warned: the queue for the glass lift through the aquarium can be very long, and there's no alternative lift you can go up if you want to skip the ride but can't go up the stairs (i.e. have a wheelchair or buggy - or both, as I have in the past - to think about).

Very wheelchair friendly, that said, and lots of interactive stuff.

If anyone is going for the first time and is anywhere near local, make sure you get the forms so if you go back within the year it's free.

DH's works Xmas dinner was there last year. It was fab and a bit spooky.
You can go on a Sat night and have a proper restaurant meal between the 2 big windows (dry side!).

We go once or twice a year (family nearby, and I used to work at the Hull Barrier next door) and have been taking DS since he was about 18 months old. He's nearly 4 now. There's always something that interests him, and something that doesn't.

It's about £8 to get in, kids under 3ish are free and you can use your ticket again and again for a year. You need to pay to park, but it's not loads, and you can use it against purchases in shop/cafe.

iseenodust - I'd love to go for a meal in the restaurant there :) (And to be honest I can't think of anywhere else in Hull I'd say that about!)

Thers's a veggie restaurant in Hull that is meant to be amazing. The first person to book for a night, chooses the theme for that night - Japanese, Mexican etc.

tribpot · 09/08/2012 18:29

Okay .. I will admit that sounds pretty awesome!

iseenodust · 09/08/2012 22:17

I've been to the veggie restaurant. It's on High St. in the old town. It's novel but a bit cosy space wise and the food is fine but not rave about. The Deep restaurant has the better food.

I love the Deep!

Really good value for money as well if you visit the Hull area a lot - we've visited six times or so this year on a ticket we bought last October cause DH's brother lives there.

ValerieDavis · 10/08/2012 16:45

Yes the pricing is really reasonable and it's great that you can go back free within the year!

I read recently that the lift in The Deep is one of the top 10 lifts in the country as well - bit of a random fact for you lot Wink

Another Deep fan here. We have been three times so far and will go again.

MrsPnut · 17/08/2012 08:29

We love the Deep too, we live just south of Lincoln so can visit from here but MIL lives in Bridlington so we visit from there too.

We can get quite a few visits out of one ticket a year.

openerofjars · 17/08/2012 08:35

Ahem. If you can face the social embarrassment, nobody ever goes in the lift in the opposite direction. So if you walk up the stairs and go down in the lift, you don't have to queue and the only penalty is being frowned at by all the people queuing to come up (terrible, I know, but not exactly being thrown out and barred from ever coming back again).

I have no shame and pretended I hadn't seen all the signs...

And yyy, the cafe is awesome: cheap, big portions and lovely comfort food. They actually had stew and dumplings when we went.
