Carribean with a 5 month old?

DH and I are looking to going away in Nov with our DS who will then be 5 months. We would like to go to the Carribean but would be crazy to go that far (as the helpful sales assistant told me in the travel agents!!) with a baby? I'm thinking it would be easier than when they are older and wanting to get down and move around, just looking for some advice really. The other option is Egypy as its a shorter flight but will still be warm?

I think the biggest possible problem for the Caribbean is the time difference and would it mess up any sleep routine you have. I agree 5 months is a lot easier than when they started crawling. I travelled to Tenerife when DS1 was 10 weeks and to Cyprus when DS2 was also 10 weeks. They were very easy holidays as were sleeping through the night and would nap during the day, so I could sunbathe a bit.

We did it last year, DS was 6 month old and we went to Barbados.
I would deffinetely recommend it, I would do it again, DS slept most of the time in outbound flight (night flight), he was able to sleep in the (basket) that the airline supplies. He cried a bit, as it was not very easy to fall sleep with the lights, and noise, but we managed.
We chose a resort that had a creche-nursery, I would really recommend you go somewhere where they have a creche as it is really helpful, we left the baby there just for a couple of hours at a time, so we went to the beach, and we went canoeing.
They also had babysitters for the evenings, and we used it once, to enjoy a nice dinner just for the two of us.
The inboud flight was during the day, and DS was really struggling with falling sleep, but we managed, we walked up and down the corridor with the sling.
Regarding the time difference, it took DS 2 days to adapt to the new time zone, but we were not into routines anyway, so it didn't matter too much, but he got up really early just for 2 days.
The resort was full of British people with young children as young as ours. So it is not so crazy to go to the Caribbean with a baby.

Much easier than when your DS is a toddler. At that age, they (hopefully) sleep a lot anyway.

Hi,
I am going to Barbados when DS is 7 months, in November to see family. I am a little worried about logistics but slowly working through it! My sister went out with hers when he was the same age and found it fine. You can take either a buggy or car seat for free on most carriers, although they put them in the hold. They provide cots on board and will store bottles etc for you.

I keep getting anxious about it and then think of all of the millions of parents who travel with their babies!
