Staying for one week in Malmsbury Wiltshire Days out required

Hi,
We are going for a week away in August in Malmsbury, Wiltshire. We have a couple of things planned but would like advice on great places to visit or avoid.
It will be me, my mum, my two daughters, age 6 and 4 and my two nephews, age 10 and 14.
We are open to anything really, we normally go for beach holidays, Devon and Cornwall way but fancied a change this year, so going up this way is completely new to us all!
Thank you:)

Longleat Safari isn't too far away.

Cotswolds Water Park has water activites in a gorgeous setting that will be great for both the adults and kids!

Cheaper days - Check out Butterfly World in Wroughton, has little stalls and a mini farm, butterfly farm and reptile house. Nice garden centre too!

Coate Water is also a nice walk and has a great 18 hole crazy golf course.

You could also take a football and/or rounders set to Lydiard Park for a kick around an ice cream. It's a lovely area, have fun! x

Lacock is lovely, a National Trust village with a few things to visit. I seem to remember a nice park there too.

Cotswold Wildlife Park isn't too far either.

Westonbirt arboretum for a picnic maybe.

A day out in Bath? Take the waters there at the new spa pool..?

Across the M4 you have Bowood house, in Derry Hill - tea room for parents, great adventure park for kids etc nice pub restaurant at either end of village.

Cirencester has a lovely lido. STEAM - the GWR museum in Swindon (combined with an outlet centre) is a great day out for kids.

The source of the Thames is at Kemble, also the airfield at Kemble sometimes has events?

Cheltenham not far either?

What about Lacock Abbey? Beautiful place that will please you and your mum but will also excite the nephews as some of Harry Potter was filmed there and there's a huge cauldron!

I second Westonbirt Arboretum. Children go free this summer I think?
Lydiard Park also has a good play park and a tree walk thing (you have to pay for that bit). I haven't been but was going to try Lotmead Farm near Swindon this summer (you can look it up on Google) -strawberry picking, animals and some play stuff.

I would second Longleat and Bowood.

Bath is a great city to explore and a day out in Swindon would be fun if wet. You could do The Steam Museum, Swimming at the Oasis (3 flumes, slides, pirate ship, shallow beach style pool, water cannon, wave machine... Changing rooms a bit grim, but the pool itself is fab). Lydiard Park has lovely play area (free) and a wire climbing thing in the trees that is new and you pay for.

Longleat is cheapest if you use Tesco Vouchers and Bowood and Oasis use voucher cloud for 2for1 deals.

I used to live in one of the Bowood grounds houses, it was where DS was conceived and born.

So I have biased but very happy memories. Grin

We regularly go to Bowood, fantastic adventure playground, nice restaurant. Cotswold Wildlife Park isn't too far away,
@Bristol is very good,
Avebury Manor is now open, I live minutes away but haven't visited yet but I've heard it's very good, a hands on house where children are encouraged to touch rather than walk around looking at thing IYSWIM. nice walk around the stones afterwards.
Lacock is nice
Steam in Swindon
There's a steam railway between Bath and Bristol, DH took the youngest DCs this week and said it was very good.
Olympic Village in Bath is worth a visit.
Neston Park farm shop is lovely, animals, fairy walk in a wooded area, lovely cafe,

Agree with Kellamity, a walk round the stones at Avebury is a nice day out. I lived in Wilts, many years ago, and we regularly went on a sunday.

Went to Bowood yesterday with my 17 month old while DH was on a course. Staff were so friendly and welcoming, opening doors, carrying trays etc. Indoor soft play for little ones and what looked like a brilliant playground for older kids. Coffee shops does sarnies, fish fingers etc.

Beware unfriendly tea rooms in Lacock though. National Trust one was fine but everywhere else v snooty. Nice play area in church which was surprising and very welcome in yesterday's downpour!
