Where the hell do I put the GB Sticker?

The instructions on the packet say;

"carefully position on the inside, facing outwards at the top left-hand side (as seen from driver's seat)".

"...as seen from driver's seat..."? WTF does that mean? When craning head backwards? In the rear-view mirror? The driver in the car behind?

It means left hand side as of inside the car, not left hand side as you look at it from the outside.

And then it should face outside so can be seen be others.

Does that make sense?

MonsPubis · 02/08/2012 20:39

You dont need a gb sticker anymore.
well there was a time when you didntneed one unless things have changed again

Ponders · 02/08/2012 20:41

you do if you don't have a number plate with it on, MP

I put ours on the tailgate to the L of the number plate

FredWorms · 02/08/2012 20:45

So, NickNacks, if I was standing behind the car (looking at it) it would be top right?

no, top L, Fred

so that when you're driving on the R in Europe, it's on the road side of the car, not the kerb side (iyswim) so it's more visible to other cars

Ponders · 02/08/2012 20:49

(they should say near side, or passenger side, not left, that's really unhelpful!)

HauntedLittleLunatic · 02/08/2012 20:54

Legally don't matter. Anywhere on the back will do.

I would interpret those instructions as the drivers side, which is also where you should put L-plates.

Ponders · 02/08/2012 20:59

you put L plates on the driver's side because that's the road side of the car when you're driving on the left

but you need to put the GB plates on the passenger side, because that's the road side when you're driving on the right

bureni · 02/08/2012 21:00

I dont think you legally have to display them in the U.K. I have never displayed one or had a number plate with one attached, perhaps this is a new rule?

Ponders · 02/08/2012 21:02

no, you don't need one in the UK Grin but I assume OP is going abroad or she wouldn't have got them!

FredWorms · 02/08/2012 21:11

OK, I'm going with Ponders Grin

Ponders - putting GB stickers on the passenger side of car boots since 1976

Grin
HauntedLittleLunatic · 02/08/2012 21:46

Fair point about driving on the other side of road...but still stands that its only recommendation where to put them.

(mines on the passenger side as I wasn't aware of such recommendation)

vodkaanddietirnbru · 02/08/2012 21:58

carefully position on the inside, facing outwards at the top left-hand side (as seen from driver's seat

It means when you are sitting in the drivers seat you would place it on the top left hand side of the screen in front of you i.e. at the top of the windscreen on the passenger side of the car - probably so it doesnt interfere with your visibility when you are driving. Face it outwards so the GB is the right way round when looking at it outside the car

vodkaanddietirnbru · 02/08/2012 22:00

oh, are we not talking about stickers you put on windscreens then?!

DoesBuggerAll · 02/08/2012 22:10

I've never taken much notice of where my GB sticker is. As long as its on the rear of the car and visible you'll be fine.

I never bother with those silly headlamp deflectors you're meant to use. I just adjust the headlamps to the lowest setting.

FredWorms · 02/08/2012 22:21

vodka, it's for the rear window!
