What can I do with 6 & 8 year old adventurous boys near Fowey, Cornwall?

We're camping for a week in Fowey next week, and I'd love any ideas for things to do nearby.

We've lived in Cornwall / Devon before, so have done some things, but hoping to tick a few others off the list!

Heligan - worth a visit? does it have a playground?

Been to Eden (many many times!)

Does Lanhydrock still have the park outside the bit you pay for? Our NT membership has lapsed and I don't want to renew at the moment (not many places we haven't been to, and virtually none where we live now!)

Have seen mention of ferries... do we just go into Fowey to find these?

Very interested in any amazing adventure playground type places.

Wet weather ideas? Might do Crealey Cornwall - have always been to Devon one before! Is there much to do there if it's wet? Is there a soft play like the Devon one?

TIA :)

Yes, Lanhydrock still has the playground outside, by the carpark. There is also Cotehele if you are NT members - about an hour from Fowey I'd guess, & no playground, but has woods, a mill, quay, boat.

You can do canoe trips down the river Foy - probably bookable in Fowey I expect. The ferries go between Fowey & Polruan on the other bank, including a car ferry at Bodinnick. You can get a water taxi to Mevagissey from Fowey & walk up to Heligan.

There is an indoor soft play thing at Dobwalls.

There is a v small aquarium in Fowey by town quay.

Will have a think what else.

Sorry just saw that you are not NT members!

Springfields near St Colomb

Dairy land got great soft play.

Beaches amazing ones on the Gorran peninsula

Cardinham Woods, Bodmin got great woodland trails, can cycle, play area, streams to paddle in, BBQ on site to cook your own, is lovely.

Kids world in st Austell.

Loads

Lappa valley railway narrow gauge steam train in, need to check times and then lots of great activities on the site.

Wingz bird sanctuary (run by a friend of mine)

treasure trails

They have 2 in Fowey and loads in Cornwall (no personal experience of the Fowey ones, but have donw a few up here (midlands) and the kids love them)

Polkerris beach has a watersports centre (and a fab beachside restaurant too).

Walk the coast path from Fowey to the Gribben day mark.

Steam railway in Bodmin.

Cycle the Camel trail on the north coast at Wadebridge and Padstow.

Tintagel (also on the north coast)

Charlestown near St Austell for historic boats and dock.

Adventurous small boys love rockpooling and Daymer Bay comes recommended for this.

Cycling the Camel Trail would be a good activity. Padstow has speed boat trips and Crazy Golf.

Geocaching is a good way to see some local landmarks.

Kidzworld at St Austell has been renovated and there is lots to do there, not just indoor soft play but they have a large outdoor area included in the price with a Sky Trail.

Fish for crabs in Polperro harbour.

Crealy does have an indoor soft play area and if you get 7 days entry for the price of 1.

Another vote here for Cardinham with way marked trails, adventure playground, stream to play in and lovely cafe. It's Forestry Commission so you just pay to park.

Thanks for those ideas! Cardinham sounds good - we won't have bikes, but could maybe hire some if weather is great, or investigate whether my BILs bike carrier would fit our car.

Sunny weather would make beaches, rock pooling & crabbing so much nicer, fingers crossed!

Love Lappa Valley, not been for three yrs or so. Might be a good idea on a sunny day. Too much is weather dependent!
