I haven`t been since 1995, checking the prices its got really expensive. Has anyone any tips on fun lodging for under a £100 a night, seems impossible if you have three kids!

We stayed at the Mandalay Beach Embassy Suites in Oxnard for about six weeks last summer.

You can get a 2 QUeen bed Ocean View Suite suitable for 2 adults and 3 children for $224/night from 10 March - 17 March (sample dates I plucked out of the air!).

Oxanrd's not the most exciting place in the world but the complex is right on the beach and perfect for bumming round and doing nothing,

SOrry, that's about 30% over your budget, isn't it?

What part of California?.

We each stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Anaheim (they have a kids suite) for £70 a night last August.

Hi,
We are hoping to go for 3/4 weeks. would have to go in Aug as can`t keep taking the kids out of school. So, need to be careful budgeting on accomodation. Really would like to stay somewhere unusual, do you know what I mean, a fum motel type place, perhaps a cottage, we could have a couple of bases, San Diego area, Yosemite/Gold Country area. Not bothered about La/SF as we have been there three times, kids would like to do more natural things.Just looking for something different, at an affordable price!

We went to California on honeymoon (1999) and loved it. But splashed out on accommodation. However, we have also visited New England when we rented an A Frame house, which was fab. With kids I think that renting your own place is much better than hotels as gives you flexibility and space - Try one of these to get some ideas :

we are going at easter and I am really looking forward to it.
Among the places we have booked are \link{http://www.elcapitancanyon.com/accom.html\here}
sleeps 5 for about $185 and looks great fun-good reviews too

and \link{http://travel2.nytimes.com/2006/02/24/travel/escapes/24yurt.html?8hpib\here}
more pricey but looks fun and have family yurts that sleep 5
Otherwise going for standard suite type hotels, boring but we have always found them good value and plenty of room for 5.

We went to Yosemite 2 years ago and stayed in a fab log cabin in Foresta. Inside the park, and so peaceful. The one we had was only 1 bedroom but there are others on this \link{http://www.4yosemite.com/\site} under $200 a night.

San Diego is fab in general and very fab for kids. I'm sure that Hub2Dee was spending a month in SD quite recently and that he had found a self catering apartment. Maybe if you search the messages from him in the archived travel threads you'll get some info.
Best of luck!
