Hello all!!

So, finally we have some sun!!! Like everybody else, I'm going to make the most of it while I can, but, I have a wee problem....

My DP works nights so most of the activities me and DS do are done by ourselves. Hence the reason for my post.

He is into absolutely EVERYTHING and runs EVERYWHERE. So, what do I do with my bags that are slung over the pram whilst I'm chasing after him?

He's only recently started walking confidently so this problem is all new to me. I've tried reins, even though I wasn't keen on using them, after a nightmare day out at the farm I went and bought a pair the very next morning!! This didn't help at all as he HATED them and went into a melt down everytime he see them come out of my bag, so they went back to the shop and now i'm back to square 1.

I plan on having lots of fun days out now that he is at the age where he can appreciate parks, farms, walks etc but i really dont know what to do about all the stuff that is on the pram for anyone to pinch whilst i'm off trying to stop my son man handling the nearest unlucky goat!!

Please help peeps :)

Use a backpack for actual valuables and leave nappy bag/lunch/clothes/extra crap on the buggy

I use a back pack. Its a bit unweildy, but does give peice of mind

I just cant wait until I can leave the house with no change bag, no pram, and just a cute rucksack with a drink and some wipes in it, but, I mus'nt wish his life away so backpack or shoulder bag for now it is Grin

I agree backpack or I had a cross body handbag for my valuables(still do, I've grown to like having my stuff secure out and about?) , depends how much you have it guess

Olympicnmix · 21/07/2012 22:00

Body crossover bag for keys, purse, phone etc leaving both hands free. Rucksack bag for all baby stuff hung over back of pram for the rest.

What olympic said.

But, my ds1 was a runner and I can assure you I'm not going through it with ds2+3. You need to nip it in the bud.

I'm going to teach my ds2*3 that unless they are holding my hand, buggy, or a strap on the buggy-they are going in the buggy. One strike and they're in. Meltdown or not.

Honestly, it's easier to teach them now than in 6 months down the line.

Reins can be a bit of a nightmare. Have you tried a wrist strap?
I would insist that he holds your hand or the pushchair. He will come round to the idea- you just have to be firm and consistent.
Would you you take a puppy out for a walk without a lead- it's the same principle, you need to train him to be safe when you are out and about.

I agree you need to stop the running away as a joke, play thing - and make sure DH knows this, mine finds it funny to pretend they are running away etc, which does my head in - OK in a park to play chasey, but not pretending they are running away from you.

Secondly, I only have my phone and a tiny wallet in my pockets - all the bulky water, snacks, changing stuff etc is in a bag - preferrably a bag that looks like a nappy bag, so people don't get any expectation of grabbing any valuable. I find it easier to have phone, wallet, keys "on me" so I never need to grab them, or keep an eye on them.

And breathe deep, this too will pass.

Have you seen the little backpacks with a safety strap? You can have it hooked over your hand in case they bolt, and they like wearing them.

I keep my valuables on me in a backpack and just leave change bag on buggy. Saying that, have had to leave DC2 in the buggy to chase escaping toddler, although she's pretty valuable! Grin
