Have been to Germany several times. I would like to take my 2 dses (13 and 15) over in the easter hols, as they are both doing german at school.

Been to Berlin, Cologne, Nuremberg, Detmold, Trier ... where can we go that is nice, easy to get to from Gatwick, preferably with something for teenage boys to do? (not nightclubs!)

Troisdorf - the i in it just makes the o sound long, no connection to French at all. There is a fantastic swimming pool in Troisdorf, called Aggua, with indoor and outdoor pools, a current that will carry you along and a great slide.

HI worldcitizen - a submarine tour would be good! I expect there will be a tour in english, also for the stadium - i think most tourist-y places will cater to English-speakers. Is there a Rundstadt bus - a hop-on hop-off with commentary-type thing? That might be of interest.

Ouluckyduck - so how is it pronounced? Not Twa-dorf as in french-3?

sparkybabe yes, they those buses and harbour boat tours and also one of these 3 hour walking tours which are gratis and you'll pay at the end whatever you like. Those I would highly recommend.
I did those, all the same company, in the UK and I had friends over and we were in Berlin together, so I did the English walking tour with them. And it was one of the best tours, I've learned so much and they are so witty and funny.
The tourguide was an English girl, she was a student in history and German and she totally knew her stuff and made the 3 hours fly by.

No it's more like the vowel sound in maybe thought, something like Trors-dorf. The I is not pronounced apart from making the o sound long.
