Lots of clothes so no washing, or light packing and the odd washing load here and there?

What would be your preference on a two week holiday.

always pack light, you end up having favourite items when you are away, that you wear repeatedly anyway,

just work out what they are going to be before you go.

Lots of clothes and no washing! Although we do have a washing machine this year so I may wash some things before I bring them home just so I don't have so muich to do when I get back. They will be washed and put straight in the case though at the end of the holiday.

GnomeDePlume · 13/07/2012 12:38

It would depend where. If a smart holiday then lots of clothes and no laundry but on a campsite I rather like pottering around doing a bit of handwashing every day.

GobblersKnob · 13/07/2012 12:43

Laundry is my comfort, so lots of clothes and then wash them all and bring them back all clean and perfect Grin

Last year we stayed at a campsite with an huge laundry room with washing machines, tumbles dryers and an ironing board and iron . It also had big squashy settees and books, I thought I had died and gone to heaven.

It pissed it down all week and we were over-run with wet muddy stuff, best holiday ever.

I am aware I am odd btw Grin

Depends on how many are going and the luggage allowance! We tend to wash some things half way through - but easy stuff that dries well and needs no ironing, pj's, underwear etc

mrsmoodypants · 13/07/2012 14:56

gobblers would you like to live next door to me - i have 3 kids so i could pass you over loads of laundry to keep you happy Grin

I would go with the light packing and doing laundry there option. I hate mountains of dirty clothes!

You have to check that you will have laundry facilities at your destination.

mirry2 · 13/07/2012 15:19

I would go with light packing, rinse things through if soled and buy new if you need. How long are you going for?

SecretSquirrels · 14/07/2012 15:47

You are supposed to be on holiday.
I might wash out the odd pair of socks or pants if anyone runs out but my philosophy is to fill up cases to the luggage limit.

mumblecrumble · 14/07/2012 15:51

Are you talking handwashing in a hotel sink or a quikc trip to a laundry?

ClaireBunting · 15/07/2012 16:24

I always find it quite satisfying to go to a laundrette and use four washing machines followed by four dryers at one time.

ENormaSnob · 15/07/2012 17:31

Lots of clothes.

I don't mind the marathon washing challenge when we get home.

BackforGood · 15/07/2012 17:42

If you are going somewhere hot, then you don't need to do either IME, you wear your cossie by the pool / beach, rinse it out as you take it off and it dries overnight, then you have a few tops and shorts or skirts for evening and walking about. Can't see why you would need to take loads of clothes or wash them, unless you are going somewhere cold, in which case, probably both.

DontEatTheVolesKids · 15/07/2012 18:43

Always pack lightly. I hate hauling big cases around. Washing is a doddle by comparison.

rookiemater · 15/07/2012 18:46

Depends how easy it is to do the washing. I bring enough clothes not to absolutely have to wash - except for underwear as simply don't have enough nice pants and bras to cover a fortnight. However if its easy to access a washing machine then I will get things done as it saves on the hassle when I get back home ( plus DS always seems to get through twice as much stuff as I imagine)

cece · 15/07/2012 18:50

Pack lightly, then remove half of the stuff from your suitcase. Then double your holiday money. Grin

Wash whilst away if necessary.

Buy new stuff if you overdid the packing light.

I once went backpacking for 12 months with 3 pairs of knickers - on the principal of wear one pair, wash one pair, dry one pair. Forgot about traveling days though and had to cave in and buy 3 more pairs! (I had other clothes other than knickers btw).

icapturethecastle · 15/07/2012 18:58

pack light and do washing in my case to avoid the ?50 fee Ryan air charge for checked baggage. Also you always end up wearing the same thing and bring back lots of clothes you don't wear.
